Brilliant scientist. Starship Commander. Humanitarian. "lovably pompous,". Warrior. Leader. Hero. These are but a few adjectives used to describe the great Optimus Prime,Lord Primus of Cybertron,and Supreme Commander of the Autobot Faction.

Optimus Prime is the awe-inspiring leader of the Autobot forces. Selfless and endlessly courageous, he is the complete opposite of his mortal enemy Megatron. Originally a mere civilian known as Orion Pax or Optronix, he was chosen by the Matrix of Leadership to command, the first in a number of heavy burdens he has been forced to bear. Another is his bringing of the Transformers' conflict to Earth. Every casualty, human or Cybertronian,sentient or no,weighs heavily on his spark. He does not show this side to his soldiers and never succumbs to despair. The Autobots need a decisive, charismatic leader and that is what he gives them. It was that leadership which turned the tide of the Great War.

On the battlefield, there are few who rival Optimus Prime's prowess. He is easily the strongest of any Autobot his size, and his ion blaster and energon-axe are deadly weapons. He would sacrifice his life to protect his fellow Autobots or those under their care and does so on such a regular basis,he often jokes that he has "frequent-flyer miles," to the afterlife. His compassion for other sentient beings is his only real weakness, and one the Decepticons have taken advantage of time and again... though it's also the source of his strength!

Optimus would ultimately become one of the few Primes to live beyond his time. He achieved this by constantly evolving and adapting not just to his environment,as would any Transformer,but to the times in which he found himself. When he found himself on a planet in which intelligent life had yet to evolve,thus negating the possibility of taking on the form of even the simplest machines,Optimus instead adapted the form of the planet's native animal life,thus he was responsible for the next stage of Cybertronian
evolution,from Autobots and Decepticons,to Maximals and Predecons.

Optimus Prime was created as the last of the Thirteen, the first generation of Transformers, each created directly by Primus as a band of unique warriors to combat and defeat Unicron. His spark was the most like their progenitor Primus, its frequency nearly identical. He was the mediator and visionary of the group, passing among them all as a calm, inspiring, thoughtful, unifying and well-liked friend. It was his unique spark and his inspiring reassurance,upon his creation that "All are One" that allowed the Primes to rally and succeed in their battle against the Chaos Bringer Unicron. While all of the other members of the Thirteen each possessed unique abilities and artifacts, Optimus wielded no special powers or weapons. It was only through his vision,his serenity even under the most dire of circumstances his encouraging words and above all,his unswerving dedication to the mission placed upon them by Primus Himself that allowed the Thirteen to finally unite to battle Unicron.

In the solar cycles that followed, Optimus served as the mediator and voice of reason among the increasingly argumentative group of Primes. When the surprising betrayal of one of their own lead to the death of Solus Prime, the Primes finally united to defeat Unicron and his newest acolyte,the Fallen. Optimus emerged mostly unharmed from the final conflict that destroyed the majority of the Thirteen,in part because the others sacrificed their lives to ensure his survival,so that his wisdom and compassion would be passed on to future generations. However, upon the activation of the Well of the Allspark, Optimus chose to enter into the Well and be reborn as a lesser Cybertronian, in order to know them and their needs better. Before doing so, he asked Alpha Trion to remove all references to his name from the Covenant of Primus, so that he could not be found unless in the most dire of circumstances.

Towing the bodies of his fellow Primes and accompanied by Micronus Prime, and the Prime known as Mortilus, Optimus bid farewell to his brothers, and announced that the era of the Primes had ended. The three of them entered and activated the Well, which began producing new mechanical life.

Eventually,the deceased Primes were reincarnated as the first eleven rulers of Cybertron. One of these Primes was Hieronimus Prime,a stern,but fair ruler who oversaw what many called the Golden Age of Cybertron He had three sons:the eldest,Ultra Magnus,the youngest,Rodimus Minor,better known by his nickname, "Hot Rod," and his middle child Orion Paximus, a humble bot with no memories of his previous life. Only the Master Archivist Alpha Trion recognized what had once been his fellow Prime, and made a note to keep an eye on him later.

In many respects,Orion was your typical Cybertronian. eventually moved to the city of Iacon, where he found work as an archivist in the newly established Hall of Records, under Alpha Trion's watchful eye. During the Age of Wrath, Orion Pax became Alpha Trion's aide. Orion eventually became friends with Jazz, a member of the underground resistance movement that had formed against the Quintessons. When the Cybertronians finally rebelled against the Quintessons, Orion confided to Alpha Trion that there may be more than one variety of Quintesson. Alpha Trion told him that he needed to keep this knowledge a secret to aid the war effort, and that he needed to pass on these orders to every officer in person. Ultra Magnus served as his bodyguard. Although the duo faced many hardships along the way, Orion Pax eventually fulfilled his mission.

When the Quintessons were finally routed from the system, Orion was present to witness the activation of the first Space Bridges, which heralded the arrival of Cybertron's Golden Age. As a reward for his service and his courage,Orion was finally granted his lifelong wish-command of Cybertron's newest and most powerful starship,the Cybertronian supercarrier designated SDF-1

Orion was then dispatched on his lifelong dream-a mission of exploration and scientific research that would last a little over five stellar cycles-fifty years on Earth. While a rather curious decision since the SDF-class was designed and intended to be a warship,Orion accepted the assignment without question and took the SDF-1 well beyond the borders of Cybertronian space in pursuit of the truth of existence

Even as the Golden Age progressed, Hieronimus Prime's caste system became increasingly oppressive and stifling. This was because Hieronimus developed a friendship with a Kaonian gladiator named Megatron,who would become Cybertron's Lord High Protector and Hieronimus' most trusted advisor. The two sought to revitalize Cybertron's rigid caste system, although they differed in their ideals. They remained friends until a fateful meeting with the High Council, in which Orion was named the next Prime- "Optimus Prime". Consumed by jealousy, Megatron and his "Decepticons" declared war on Optimus and his "Autobot" followers.

Over the course of the war, Optimus eventually inherited the Matrix of Leadership after Megatron murdered his father and attempted to poisoned Cybertron with Dark Energon. The Matrix cast all doubt from Optimus's mind about his worthiness as a Prime, and once on the surface he asked Alpha Trion to help refit Prime's old starship- the SDF-1,also known as the Ark so that the civilian Cybertronians-who would eventually become the Autobots could evacuate the planet while it recovered. They were pursued by Megatron aboard his own ship, and the two factions traveled through the last working space bridge, scattering them across the galaxy.
