Description This was my attempt to draw a head without a reference. Very difficult for me but I like how it turned out even if I did run into a few problem areas.

Very nice! This is a big improvement in terms of art from what I've seen you do... The head is at a slightly tilted angle, down and to the side, and you have a good solid feel for how the 3 - dimensional shape feels, with the hair doing a good job of laying across the surface of the head, not just stuck on. In addition to a good overall shape, the individual features are looking nice - I thought the subtle pencil shading you used helps to bring them out very nicely. Nice nose too, it's hard to show that the nostrils exist without making them exaggerated, but you succeeded here. Good work!

Sweet! thanks, I was worried that I might have the nose pointing in the wrong direction by a few degrees but that makes me feel better about it. I think the only other things I was worried about was that the shading didnt really show any light source and was kinda blotchy for a few features. what do you think about the mouth?

Shading can be good for showing light sources, but that isn't always the only purpose... The end goal is to make the drawing look good, so sometimes a literal light source isn't too important.

As for the mouth - The mouth looks like it had a little more difficulty, as far as the angle on the face. But it's moving in the right direction - it's helped a lot just out of its simple design, which clears up any potential problems. Sometimes streamlining the detail makes it so much better - anime is a good example of this, and you mouth uses simplicity to good effect.

Oooooh *marvels upon smartness* you make a good point. in the end it's most important that it just looks good.
I'm glad that you liked the mouth. I did my best on it but after it started getting worse and worse i decided that simplicity would be better then awkard detail. I still see it as a bit of loss that I had to make that choice though.
