I love this. I think because the emotion was displayed in a more subtle manner it creates more dimensions to the piece. I guess what I'm trying to say is that because there's only a small external glimpse at the emotion the viewer is also drawn into considering the depth to which those emotions go. In that sense the painting goes from being appreciated as ascetically pleasing to a pondering, questioning and imagining. The viewer becomes active in the piece I suppose. If that makes any sense at all. I apologize for blabbering on. It's a great piece.
