Description A large necrophagous beetle of the family Silphidae. It is known as the "Red-Lined Carrion Beetle" It is active at night and roams like a vagabond through the carcasses of dead animals feeding on the decomposing flesh and maggots that are found there. The males and females reproduce in the skull or thoracic cavity of the corpse. The eggs are then deposited on the ground surface or on the carcass of the animal.
