No worries - sorry for the delay, we don't check this account that often.

If you click the 'download to desktop' icon, it will download a .zip file. You will need to unzip it - probably to your desktop is easiest. From there, go into the folders and you should see a file called lighting.htm. Double click that and it should open up in your browser. There's page navigation aids at the bottom of the screen.

Right click on the 'dowload to desktop' button and then 'save target' then you'll get the zip file to download

If you click on the 'download to desktop' button under the deviation, it will download a .zip file. From there you can just extract the files and double click to view in your browser.

Really dumb question but I'm wonder what 'strobes' are, what kind of light are they? Maybe this is an american english confusion as I'm from the UK and so an English English speaker

Aww hell, I sound so stupid now but I still want to know what 'strobes' are .. so .. what are they?

Thanks.
a brit chick.

Arundel In reply to CathieHeart [2005-08-24 02:37:37 +0000 UTC]

Hiya, there are no dumb questions, especially when it's all jargon to begin with. (And I'm Canadian with a British mother, so we can talk English-English!) Strobe is another way to talk about studio flash "cool" lighting, the opposite of continuous "hot" lighting; and both are true statements in terms of physical heat and colour temperature of the light.

I can't think of what a UK-only term might be, but strobes/flashes made for studio use are usually 300-1500 watts of power, and you can fit them with ways to shape and direct the light such as brollys (umbrellas), soft-boxes, louvres, or barn doors (flaps). I think the biggest UK manufacturer is Bowens. [link]

Hope this helps,
-/.\

Ahhh a flash studio light is a 'strobe light' gotcha, I use the continuous hot studio lights .. that way my clients aren't suprised by the lights flashing and also they were faaaar cheaper

Thank you so much, and thank you even more for the great tutorial .. when I have more questions I'll make a trip to the photography channels chat room

Cheers.
