Description the first killdeer hatched this year in "my area" . . . i know they have a lot of "fluff" when they come out of the egg, but it still amazes me when i see them . . it looks like just their head would fill one of those eggshells . . . this little guy is just hours old in this photo and already able to run

note: i do my best not to disturb wildlife . . . when i come across something like this, i usually fire off three to six quick shots and move on . . i don't like to stress them out or draw unnecessary attention to them

a big "thank you" for adding my photos to your favorites or collections . . . i will reply to comments, but i am no longer able to acknowledge every . . . thanks so much for your support and understanding

Wow Tom, this is really a great find!
I do the same when shooting young wildlife... don't want to stress the young or have the parents abandon them. insta fav my friend!

thanks ruth! . . . you come across creatures like this all the time - they're usually just bigger - and have antlers!

LOL! at this stage no antlers

I saw a Kildeer on the railroad tracks today and thought of this darling I know they live where ever there is water and things to eat but I am used to seeing them on the southern California beaches so it was nostalgic for me

Killdeers are really neat, they are also very good parents: I like how they perform a "wounded" bird trick to lure predators away away from thier nests! ()

I love these birds. And kudos to you for not disturbing nature's beauty. Wish more of us did the same!
