i'm not positive, but believe this to be a female eastern american toad (bufo americanus americanus) . . . regardless, they are harbingers of spring and i welcome them

What a real beauty she is. I would give anything to see a common brown toad again. We used to have them in in our yard during the 1950s-1980s, but they all disappeared about 20 years ago. Too much development. Now all we have is people. Ugh.

It's very sad. When I heard that the one and only pond locally was being cleaned out for the new development, I knew the frogs were goners.
