Description Photographer's Comment
A wonderful waterfall scene that combines the elements of water and rock. I found it very soothing to photograph.
Nikon D2x set at 100 ISO for 1.6 seconds at f/22. Comments and suggestions would be welcomed.

Nice silky waterfall effect, well done. Little experience with this type shot, but ~Wimpler's advice sounds pretty sound.

Did you use a polarizer? It looks to me as if you didn't. It would allow you to get rid of the reflections, especially the one on the center leaf and the rocks. It would make the colors more vivid as well.

I would not have exposed that long to keep a little more detail in the water but I guess that is just a matter of preference.

Composition is good

thank you for the comments and suggestions. I was not able to use a CPl as I did not have it in my bag . I was running the longer exposuer to make sure the water was silky.

Have you had success getting water to flow like that with a lower shutter speed? Perhaps I am working too hard.

Yes, none in my gallery I think...

The best advice I can give you:

about 1/2s of exposure usually gives a nice result. If you want it extremely silky or if water is flowing realy slow, you can go up to 1 sec.

Use a polarization filter to reduce reflection on the water. Wet stones, for example, will have more vivid colors. A polarizer also decreases the light strength by about 2 stops. This will allow you to shoot with a wider aparture. If you want to expose 1/2 you can shoot at f8 with polarizer instead of at F16 without.

If you want an even larger aparture you can use a neutral density filter.
