Edited it to the best of my ability :l Like always, looks tons better IRL.
That white blob in the middle is supposed to be a heart.
You can't see it here because of the bad quality picture, lol. I promise you it's there though D:

This has a wonderfully abstract feel to it. I love the subtle fire embers in the darkness.

mmmm, this is really amazing.
i realize though, that if there is a heart there,
there are thorns around it? and it seems to be bleeding? (way to go me, i can point out the obvious!)
this may sound completely off but it seems to me as though someone is kind of grabbing it, and like, crushing it.
at the same time, the flame for some reason reminds me of romance.

Lovely colour scheme, it's really strong.
I know there's not much you can do now that its complete, but I'll have a go at critique anyway. The only thing I think it lacks is a bit of balance.
This could be done by adding something more to the right side, either with tilting the tree and the heart more or by adding more black area.
This is hard without knowing the concept you had in mind, but you have more colours on the top half of the painting. There are oranges and greens and blues, whereas the bottom only has white and red. It's another question of balance. The flame is quite dominant and does sort of unbalance the piece. Maybe if you added more area to the bottom: where the tree is, more white, it would counteract the flame.
This is all just objective, it might not work with your personal interpretation of it.
One thing I really like is the concept of the thorns around the heart, especially as they're in negative colours.

Damn. i thought this was digital. Considering it was scanned, you managed to get it to look so good (though that's probably easier for me to say, as I haven't seen the original). I can NEVER get my traditional stuff to look this good on the computer. Unfortunately, though, as you said, the contrast is too high, so I can't make out the heart.. There's nothingt hat can be done about that though.. Otherwise, I love how saturated the colors are. That red makes me happpyyyy

I believe that theres a heart there!! I like how it's being strangled by thorns... Not a very happy image type thing, but cool nonetheless. The fire is pretty wicked and I'm loving all those little broght spots in the blackness... Lots of black by the way. I really like the way the blood is running from the heart down the tree. Which brings us to the tree... or whatever... I think it's a tree. It looks like a tree. It stands out fairly sharply aghainst the black at the bottom and it looks nice.
