I fucking hate self portraits. Not only is drawing myself difficult (harder than someone else, because I'm constantly like, UGH THIS DOES NOT RESEMBLE ME AT ALL) but doing it with ACRLYICS just makes it ten times harder D| sdfdf this is terrible.One of the pieces done for the Art Intensive program in the painting session.
9 hours, acrylic paint, 16"x20" ..board thing.

I like how you ended up using a lot of different colors and color shades to perfect the image. I LOVE the detail in the hair and how you can see the part and different strands of hair. This piece is absolutely stunning, good job ^__^

I giggled at the title, which made me want to check our your painting more so. To tell the truth, your self-portrait resembles my best so much that I almost thought she had painted it. She would have used a title similar to yours, I imagine.
Anyway, I have nothing to critique in a negative implication. The colors choices were wise and anatomically I see nothing that needs revision. Not really.
My favorite thing about this painting is the brushstrokes, though. I am a sucker for that sort of thing. Depth is added and texture is galore.

When you full view it looks very nice. The eyes look gorgeous and your paint skills are amazing! The only thing that looks off is the part of your lip away from the lightsource. It looks like it lost it's shape or something.

Self-portraits are definitely hard. i don't think I could do one very well at all. So congrats for doing it, even IF it was required. x) I think you did a great job. Its definitely even harder with paints.

I agree with you, self portraits do suck to draw. I always do half-hearted sketches and then scrap it before its done.
I can say that it does resemble you. I can't pinpoint what area, but I'll compare it with a photo on Facebook (haha) to critique.
In this particular photo ([link] ) your fringe goes the other way. O_o Has it changed?
Your eyebrows are lighter, nose widens a bit more towards the mouth. The line of the top lip should be straight, dip, straight, whereas in the painting it slopes in a bit more on your right side. I also think your face is slightly longer than in the painting, and your cheekbones are more pronounced. In the painting, the cheek area is fuller, rounder.
This might not be accurate, I know how screwy a photo can look, but yeah.
I love the colours and the shading. It's really wonderful. Just one quick thing: under the left side of your neck, the dark areas are a bit patchy. Also, I think your neck is thinner than that.

I think you made the neck look too thick is all and yeah you do look a lot older. MISS OLD PANTS. I like the eyes and lips though. Colors are fun.

Dude I think you did a fantastical job with it! I love the colors and the bright oranges and reds and pinks used on the face. Really contrasts the moss-green in the background, and makes you really, really stand out. And the nose-! The nose is awesome. I hate doing noses- and lips... and eyes for that matter hahah xDD
ALSO DUDE. I THINK OUR GLASSES ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME. (except mine are a bit more brown. But then again, you might have changed that for dramatics artistic purposes!)
The only crit I would say is to pay attention to your brushstrokes. Don't blot the colors on there- try to follow the surface of the skin, because the brushstrokes are really easy to spot and make a very big difference in painting, especially with Acrylics. I hate acrylics :\ They dry too damn fast.

Oh jesus. I hate self portraits too, and having taken figure for a year, (and again next year) I've drawn many.. plus one on my own time. I love drawing other people, for some reason it's easy as pie to geta likeness out of them than it is myself, so I can totally relate. The more you do them, though, the more familiar you become with your features, and the easier they get.Unless you're like me and hate looking at yourself int he mirror
There was this one guy, and he did self portraits every morning for a year, and it was so cool. You could see him healthy on one day, tell he was hung over on the next, or sick, or needing to shave. It was so cool. That and I think there was someone that did it over 5 years, and you can see slight aging as well.
But that's all insignificant. Anyway, the proportions look pretty correct. Everything's lined up accordingly. I like the cool on hot in for the shadows and light planes, and how you neutralized the colors (I probably like it moreso because that was how I was taught to paint). I feel liek the neck should have more cooler shades, though. There's an area in shadow that looks too hot. Also, the black around the eyes seems a little too harsh, and makes the whites seem mucky, especially around the corner of the eyes.
Otherwise, great! I know how hard self portraits are to do, and this one is very good

We had to do self portraits for grad, except you weren't really allowed to blend the colors, instead make different layers of where the shadows on your face are. Your self portrait reminded me to post mine later 8D
