First of all, I'm level 7, and you're level 100. The advantage is already clear. Second, not all of your attacks are dragon-type, as mine are not all fairy-type. Third, your stats are monstrous compared to mine. You have ridiculously high attack, defense, special attack...not to mention speed. I probably won't even get to attack you. Go ahead. Try it.

I'd just like to say... that a creature like Durant can take on Hydreigon.

Durant. A pathetic puny little ant. And it can kill it's predator. Not to mention having the capabilities to kill almost everything in the game.
There may be something related to violence, considering most dragons are about being badass and powerful, but also violent (there are few cuddly dragons, and Haxorus, while friendly can be hostile).
Dark types sound like generic evil types, but GF handled them very carefully. They're not outright evil, but manipulative and sly, and their movepool connects with that. Ghosts are actually the diabolical, sinister type. So, my point is, Fairy may appear to be the cutesy type, and it probably will be (there hasn't been one before, Normal was not it), but there will also be something to it that may make it work.
It sounds silly but I'm curious to see what they'll do with it. Also, people, the rumours of it being IMMUNE to dragon is still, well, a rumour, at least at the time of writing. Personally, fairies should not be immune in my opinion, but resistant.
Did it ever make totally clear sense why Dark and Bug were good on Psychics? No, it wasn't obvious, except for the thought that bugs are a commonplace fear.
Dragons in myth typically represent greed, and fairies, while being associated with cute cuddliness, can also be very manipulative and use powerful magic attacks. I think that the fact that one of the moves shown from the fairy type being associated with the moon may hint that there's more to this "fairy" type than most people let on... Probably because pink is the main colour.
And if worst comes to worst... it's still in every way better than that stupid "love" type some people thought of.

Fairy isn't as much of a Glass Cannon, though.
On the other hand, Reshiram, Latias, and Latios will apparently take normal damage from Fairy (it's resisted by Fire and Psychic). Granted the Reshiram wouldn't fear Ice, either...
