Perfect example of when breaking the rules is good. Centering on her face runs you head on into those piercing eyes. You've captured her pent up muscular tension so well that the viewer is just waiting for her to pounce. Tremendous depth and focused details. Only a few minor negatives, the tip of her tail needs a bit more space. It seems there is dust or something in a few spots, notably the inside of her front left leg, nose, and right chest. Enjoyed her pointed posed from paw, and being able to see the pads on her right rear foot, made for interest. It's hard looking at this photo to see anything but those eyes. You almost have to force yourself to admire the rest of the picture.

I'm not a professional, but I've been doing this for many years and have taken some training. I love this photo. The lighting was absolutely perfect for a black subject. There are no odd and annoying light reflections which would take away from the subject. The way you captured him, the subtle lighting emphasizes the cats musculature. Because he is in motion, this stands out even more. You can actually see the ripling muscles in his chest and shoulders. This is phenomenal and I think leaves the viewer with a sense of awe at the obvious physical power that this animal has. I like also that he is looking at you and you were able to capture his look with clarity. Your depth of field is perfect, and the background colours make the animal really stand out as the star of the photo. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the white spot on his nose. I find that it is distracting. The viewer's eyes are naturally focused initially on the brightest spot in the photo. Is there any way this could have been photoshopped out? It looks to me that you have made little to no alterations on this photo, so perhaps this couldn't be viewed as "cheating". Something to consider anyways. Overall, I think this is one of the better pics I've seen of this magnificent animal. Great work!

I, too, agree with lenslady, that the photo is really something special and very perfect, but for the white spot. Normally, I don't remove such things either, because they are part of what we see, and part of what the subject is, but in this case, with such a black subject, with black being THE subject of the photo, the white spot is pulling the eye too much. I wouldn't say, it spoils the whole good picture - it can't - but it is distracting.
Look at us, here we are, talking about that stupid spot, instead of just leaning back and adoring the cat.

First of all thank you so very much for this amazing critique i am honoured you took the time to write this

regarding the white scare i had a inner battle about it i could easy clone it out but i decide to keep it because it was a natural part of the jaguar... But maybe that was a bad choice i was really hoping to get more attention on the picture but it did not happen so i maybe should have cloned it out :/

Thank you so very much for the hart warming critique it mean very much to me

sincerely
P

I just saw your second photo of the same animal. If the white spot on his nose is a scar, then of course you should leave it in I think. I wasn't sure what it was and thought that maybe it was a spot of bird poop or something else foreign. I've just never seen an animal scar so white, but that could be because the animal is so dark that it is very apparent, and or the light reflecting off it. In your second picture, it doesn't appear as brightly and foreign as it does with the green and yellow background. The rocks in the second photo seems to allow it to blend in more normally. I just love both pictures. Our zoo here doesn't have a black leopard and I would just love to get a photo of one I took myself. LOL Great pictures.

Fair assessment, and I agree with all but the nose mark. It would appear to be a scar and as much as I would love a flawless picture of such a wonderful animal that is part of this subject. I would rather see that he has a scar than have it photo shopped out, but that is my opinion It is an awesome photo and I only wish my zoo could offered up better places and options for photo taking,, sigh...
