I read Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson and what can I say, the man can't miss, a 10/10. Couldn't wait to get home to make some fanart. For some context, in the book the oceans are from spores that come down from numerous moons and are always visible in the sky.
The Process :
I started by gathering references from both the book and also some composition references for the scene. I started by blocking out the render and figuring out the lighting. Once that was done I grabbed a female base mesh, some hair and a dress from different asset stores and made Tress from those. The rocks and ocean are made from Blenders built in landscape tool. For the sea texture I used a glitter material. Next up was drawing all the moons and atmosphere parts. This was the most difficult part for my because my 2D skills are not up to par with my 3D skills but I managed and learned a lot through the process. I used a moon png btw. I put all the parts together, added some starts, gradients, foreground and that was pretty much it. In blenders compositor I added glare, lens dirt, minimal distortion and adjusted the CRGB curves to get the look I wanted.
