Description

The Night Lords:

The Night Lords under Konrad Curze were are a loyalist successor chapter of the Night Lords Legion, created during the Second Founding. The Primarch of the chapter tragically disappeared when he and his veteran bodyguards were ambushed by dark Eldar when protecting Nostramo. To this day it retains its war cry of “Ave Dominus Nox”.

Although not the friendliest of chapters, the Night Lords retain their Primarch’s wish for a world without crime and, as Curze did himself, the chapter master always must remain on Nostramo for a period of time to keep the peace and to prevent the planet’s return to its criminal and chaotic ways. The chapter therefore is both specialised in terror tactics and mob control, making them excellent policemen so to say.

They are not compliant to the Codex Astartes since they identify their companies and squads using their own special symbols, not just with colours and numerals. Their dark blue, gold and lightning-decorated armour is hard to miss when a Night Lord, let alone several of them, fight alongside guardsmen or, when given the honour, when parading through the streets of an important imperial world. Their reputation would always proceed them as often, when a world would rebel, the Night Lords’ presence would terrify the insurgents and thus break the morale before battle had even commenced.

Special adornments on the armour of the Night Lords would be the signature bat wings also seen on Konrad Curze’s armour before his disappearance. Other ornaments would be bones, skulls and lightning bolts made of gold-bronze metal (or for some out of actual bones). Veterans had their right shoulder pauldron decorated with a skull. Sergeants had a metal skull on their helmet and bat wings, the lieutenants had a specially designed helmet with thicker wings, just like the captain, both of these last ranks had a helmet designed specially to look even more terrifying to their enemies.

The chapter believes that when all dark Eldar are exterminated Curze will be freed from his eternal struggle against the raiders, finally returning to his sons to lead them to the final victory. For this reason chapter master after chapter master has sought to break into the Webway and siege Commorragh, the city of these foul beings. So far only the Salamanders have ever succeeded in this, mostly because one of the Dark Eldar themselves opened the gat, thus repeating this event seems very unlikely to be achieved, even for the infamous Night Lords.

The Night Angels

The Night Angels Chapter are a Night Lords successor chapter founded during the Second Founding, hailing from the geneseed of Konrad Curze, the Night Haunter. Much like their parent legion, the Night Angels specialise in terror tactics, but add the assault speciality as well, making them excellent against reinforced positions. For this reason, the chapter is more vehicle heavy as well, owning several tanks and aircraft for transport and heavy support.

The motto of the chapter is “We have come for your blood”, an adaptation of the Night Lords’ own “We have come for you”. This motto is not just for show though, they are in fact known for battling with a blood rage so great it rivals that of the Blood Angels’ Black Rage and Red Thirst. Unlike the latter though, the Night Angels don’t conceal their lust for blood, instead being proud of letting the blood of heretics flow in the name of their emperor.

Like the Night Lords, the Night Angels are not Codex compliant. They more or less have taken their parent chapter’s symbols for squads and companies, just like their gold-bronze detailing, bone-coloured faceplate and have designed their chapter symbol to be a skull with feathered wings, not bat ones like the Night Lords. They also do not use lightning details, so even though the same colours are used there are several differences as to known they are indeed a separate chapter.

Their special adornments are the same as those of the Night Lords, but again with feathered wings instead of the bat wings. Furthermore the helmet designs for sergeants, veterans, lieutenants and captains is very much the same as the parent chapter, meaning that it does not matter whether or not the Night Lords or Night Angels besiege you, their terror will grip your throat tight either way.

Additional note: I am still new to the whole Warhammer 40k franchise and thus several things might be wrong in this post, I do appreciate positive feedback on that, so feel free to comment. I am, however, aware that within the community and fanbase there’s now a dislike for Games Workshop and their release of the Primaris Astartes. If you are one of those people that hate them, don’t vent it in this comment section, that’s not what my illustrations are for, thank you.
