"I don't get it."
And Christine also likes pop music. She's got strange taste. Maybe she likes trashy movies too. Wonder if she's seen The Room (2003).

I imagine handcuffs are a tad cheaper, lad.

Part of the joke in bringing 50SoG parallels to Raoul/Christine is that Raoul has that whole "millionaire" aspect of the fantasy covered; now all he needs is the abusive shitlord behviour camouflaged as kink!

Oh my, Raoul. Dare I know how this is going to sound, but it is just a book. I'm sure Christine would speak up if she wanted the kinky. lmao

I'll never understand how anyone thinks 50SoG is sexy/romantic.
Grey hit's all 15 hallmarks of an abusive relationship, and [from what I've heard] he's doing the BDSM all wrong.

Ehh, I'll lay into the many faults of the book with glee, but lets not be disingenuous about it either. Dickish characters who are hott and powerful/rich get away with all kinds of their shit being ignored/excused (see: many many fictional villains including some Building residents; RL to an infuriating amount), and there's plenty of analysis that'll give you tools to apprehend the "ravishment"/submissive fantasy: it neatly disculpates a woman from her own (shamefulsluttybad) sexual desires because powerlessness makes it Not Her Fault if she enjoys what her dedicated, wicked, damn-near telepathic lover is doing to her, etc etc. The way our bland and virginal Ana dissassociates and "inner goddess"es her sexual dealings is pretty wild. And it IS a very circumvoluted female power fantasy, to be The One to humble/tame/Save the womanizing broken bad boy.

I'll be honest, I only read through the first chapter.
Then I put the book down, placed the receipt on top, and mixed myself a few Spaghetti Westerns (half a shot Root 100, half a shot of sarsaparilla).

I like to think Christine is reading 50SG for her informal dissertation on feminist reactions to the portrayal of women’s desires and sexuality in contemporary popular fiction – called Life.
Speaking of which, it’s too bad our heroines can’t hire the new lady Ghostbusters to fumigate those malignant spectres of musical-sequels past.

I love Raoul's confusion with the book, which I won't comment on the literary merits of said book, but I do enjoy the acknowledgement of the conflict of character xD you would think that Christine would be burning both 50 Shades and Twilight because they both feature a similarly borderline emotionally, mentally, and at times physically abusive main tragic "hero".

sometimes even the most literary among us just want to read mindless trash. Think of it as cheat day for the healthiest eaters. I can't even consider it after George Takei read some of it with his distinctive "Oh my" inflections.

Forget disillusionment and performance anxiety. Don't go through a woman's bedside drawers because she will hurt you badly if she finds out.
But Fifty Shades? Really, Chris?

Raoul, Raoul, Raoul... you should have asked Christine to divulge in her fantasies a long time ago... this of course means you'd have to expose many of yours... but it certainly is better than going to a book written by someone who doesn't know you, Christine, your history and relationship. *Smacks him over the head* Surprises are nice, but only when they show you listen to or take notice of the small things. Doi!

If a guy ever wants to know how to spice up life in the bedroom, he reads his girlfriend's/fiance's/wife's choice of literature porn. Although, considering which book Raoul is looking at, that's probably not the wisest decision in this situation.
I also notice that Sarah made no protest to the "once-and-future goblin queen" comment Christine made. Does that mean she's actually acknowledging the potential reality of that title?

God DAMN we had a rough day in North Carolina– this was so, so appreciated as an unexpected little piece of levity. I often feel like I use your comic as a nice little escapist route from the everyday. It's so comforting, and much appreciated.
Also, someone below said it better than me, but I really, really appreciate the way you write the ladies. So refreshing/hard to come by in just plain ol' mainstream media. I don't comment a whole lot here nowadays but know that I'm still around, still reading, and still loving every bit of it.
