I have read a few good ones, but yeah, like you say, some are very well written but nothing that interests me and it's a shame T^T;
The only remedy to that is to write our own fics like you found out already hehehe.

Hits the nail on the head. I'm only reading fanfics recommended by people I know and "trust" and sometimes really find good stuff I enjoy to read. It's already bad enough that you have to browse DA for transformers with pretty much one hand over your eyes to not see all those stupid OCs, and I'm definitly not reading anything containing Mary Sue crap.

Does it still get written further?

I only found it here and that seems to stop pretty much at random.

Oh misery, I read through all of it D: And seemingly it is the last chapter Peacewish had in store she posted yesterday. It was awesome, but man it hurt, such terrible hopelessness, poor Jazz and all the other Bots!

Finding good fanfiction these days is like finding a needle in a needle stack. I've all but stopped looking for good fanfiction since it's just so rare.

I can perfectly understand where you are coming from with the blood that reading terrible fanfiction often sheds among us. Sometimes the lack of grammatical comprehension makes you feel like your IQ is lowering just from simply having read it...
However as a writer of genuinely hard-working fanfiction, I try very hard to write rounded, realistic and genuine characters. And I think that as a 100% self-educated writer, I manage to do that okay.
Not sure if you're much of a fan of 'darker' more 'realistic' stories, or even fanfictions in general, but at risk of sounding like a shameless self-plug here; I would like to give you an example of one that I have worked incredibly hard to try and make a good one.
It's Transformers songfic actually, based around the song 'Riot' by Three Days Grace; centring around the possibility of 'The Autobots have been exposed only to the lighter side of our world, eg; Sam being a good kid, the N.E.S.T soldiers being good men. What if they were shown the evil side of humanity that DIDN'T stem from Decepticon cause? The side of our world that WE humans are capable of creating all on our own?'.
Please, if you have even a small faith left in the capabilities of fanfiction authors, I urge you to give this one a chance.
I understand if you don't read it, because again, I hate sounding like I'm trying to 'plug' or something. But hopefully if you do read this, I hope in all sincerity that you enjoy it.

By the way, your artwork is astounding and awe inspiring. You should be incredibly proud of the skill and talent you possess, and I mean that quite sincerely

Yuppers, the worse grammar, uncomprehendable text, and I feel I'm back to my kindergarden years of watching TV programs in foreign languages, not understanding a word and thinking "ooh pretty pictures, oh that dude owns an icescream truck!" I usually read M rated fics because that's where mostly stuff happens instead of happy-joy-field-trips with OOCs and giggling Although I do read those when I want to cheer myself up a lil heh.
It also depends a lot on one's likings and dislikings ^^ For me, when it comes to transformers, I want to read about robots, not humans. Especially not with Fan-Character humans. Why? I see humans every day, no matter where I go, even in the mirror; it's boring storywise. (I've been through hell myself, just not with drugs like in the story ) I did read your fic up to the point where there was holoforms about to ask questions from the girl. Humans (added with holoforms) in small amounts at a time is good, not when a main focus. And I hate G1 one for starting the whole humanization thing, grrrr
What I can say from the start, it was well written, but try to avoid using already used phrases like "I can smell him." ^^ Stuff like that works usually once, and if it's directly from cannon, it more or less in that form works only once. Although I hear "More than meets the eye." eeeeverywhere, to a point it's just humorous. Like latest addition to that phrase was Star Trek Deep Space Nine, and that's old series from 1993 to 1999, which my man rewatched recently.
If I was interested of movieverse and the characters you choose and created, I'd most likely read through it gladly, as I imagined it being a nice movie in front of me eyes, but I stated my reason why I stopped
I have read many good stories, but sadly I've scrambled through so many bad ones that I eventually drew this pic and ranted XD Thanks

SOMETIMES...MY EYES!! THEY BLEED!!
true...all the romance and yaoi and porn most of the time.
I liked long and well written ones, with good character development and believable pairings.

What's better than to share own fantasies to thousands of other perverts
These days everything is considered porn in TF if someone is connected with cables to someone/something, apparently. I didn't consider everything to be like that, like my man said when he proof read my fanfic I had to tell him "No, I didn't mean it like that, damnit...o.o;" The scenes were just to tease readers, because nothing really happened lol such is mind! It plays tricks on us!
Good character development and relationships are difficult to built, especially in short fics. The authors usually have the urge to skip to the more "juicy" parts asap. I'd rather read all of the interaction, problems, what possibly one can toss them at, ect. that happens before it too, with a POSSIBLE PLOT TOO! D: If all that's the case, I don't pretty much care who's the pairing, although of course everyone interested of characters they like instead of just someone random.
And that brings the problem of fan characters, they start as very hollow ones, developing through the story. Or that's how it should be. But instead mostly they're in the spot light, taking the whole show and end up as heroes...and we still know nothing about them.
Since we know pretty much the canon characters inside out. Their challenge is to keep them in character, unless done on purpose.
Ah, wall o text, yay!

aye, that is true...well some fangirls just want to do that.
connected to cables = getting repairs (at least to me) I agree, the mind takes things to the next level.
same here, I want character development. pairing matters to me...becuase I hate yaoi and yuri.
indeed, must keep characters in-character, not OOC!

pika In reply to victortky [2012-04-06 15:54:58 +0000 UTC]
Connecting cables is very same thing as what we do in reality: electricity transfer in a form or another, water pipes, ventilation systems... I would consider stuff like that being everyday casual activities in the meaning of communication, repair checks, system cooling, ect.
TFs really need to push their limits to "overload"
What it comes to pairings in TF, according to official news they don't have gender. We humans have the habit to determine stuff via gender, which is just plain wrong. Hell, I was a little tomboy when I was a kid, didn't like playing with dolls, instead I played with legos and cars, and I still prefer "boys' toys"
I don't mind hetero, yaoi or yuri as long as it works. Mindless pr0nfics are just Same thing when I had this discussion with my friend wanting to see naked chicks all the time, game characters in this case. I asked him "What's the point of seeing pretty naked women? It's boring, they all have the same anatomy, just a different pretty face. It's more interesting to see them wear different clothes!" and I ended up editing FF13's Lightning's head into this very fat woman's photo I found with google. Sent it to him and he really didn't like it
When I wrote my fanfic, I liked it a lot when I had to struggle to keep characters as much in-character as I could. It's a tough job I have to admit

oh I see...interesting.

indeed, same here for me.

lol! Reminds me of a pic I drew a while back where I slowly melted in front of the computer, reaction from a bad fic. It's gone now so this makes me even more nostalgic. For me it's more when the characters or idea is awkward. Recently I read a TFP fic and I found myself thinking, "Why are the characters acting so cold and robotic?" ...and then I derped.
