Description

~ And so, Vaquita the Constellangel is born. ~

(She was actually born yesterday, but I hadn't the ability to post then. So, late birthday present to me, and welcome Vaquita!)
Note: This image is somewhat temporary. I plan on digitizing it over the summer if I can. I honestly think this is my best hand-drawing yet, and I am so proud of it! As always though, critiques please and thank you! I want to be a better artist, and that's hard to do without community help and crits~
Also, if there's anything you want to know about Vaquita, please ask! I'd love to answer/add the information based on your question/desire to know.

Constellanges are born of people with pure intent under the constellation that best reflects their heart. I can think of no better pure intent than to save a species going extinct because of human greed.
Vaquitas are a species of porpoises that live only in the upper gulf of California, nowhere else. They are the smallest breed of porpoise/dolphin/whale (their family group) in the world, and currently, there are less than 20 known Vaquitas left alive. Imagine, twenty-two years ago, when I was born, there were 567 known living adults. In a little more than 20 years, my entire lifespan, we have lost over 500 Vaquitas. This species is on the list of "Extinct within 10 years". Many aren't even giving them until 2020. However, a great many people are going to great lengths to save this species. For now, I won't bore you with the specifics, but I will direct you to the Vaquita CPR, the main team working tirelessly to save these creatures.  www.vaquitacpr.org/ has information on the species, efforts to save them, and more. The Vaquitas gained my attention two years ago, and ever since I've been following updates on them.
But, all that aside, this Constellangel is a reference to those wonderful people trying so hard to save the species. So many people are doing all that they can for these Vaquitas, and I want to help too. This Constellangel is only the start.
As for Vaquita herself, she is a strong willed woman, who does not show her fear when combating a serious situation. This does not mean she does not possess fear, only that she knows when she needs to focus on the task at hand. She is kind and loves to teach about the plight of the Vaquitas she spent her life trying to secure, and often creates small visual displays to remind her of the few sightings she has had in her lifetime. She often makes these for youth. I can see her being a mother and grandmother in her time on Earth, with a soft spot for the intelligent minds of youth. Her temper and patience may have a long fuse, but she can be quite the terror in a meeting when need be.
Physically, she understands she is a bit thick. She is more than comfortable in her own skin, feels that it does not decrease her health, and makes her feel closer to the "little sea cow" she aims to protect. In respects to the Vaquita species, she appears as a Constellangel with a sunset over the waters of the Gulf of California on her wings, which are shaped and held like the dorsal fins of her beloved species. Her outfit mimics the patterns of the Vaquita, including a veil with the pattern of the Vaquita's characteristic mask. Her feet themselves have morphed so the outer three toes to the heel and calf have formed to half tail fins each. A rather large mole resides on her stomach, which she is not fond of. However, she has converted into a tattoo, with the brightest star being the mole, and now she loves it. Behind her rests the Delphinus constellation, with a loosely drawn Vaquita between the stars, with the brightest settling in her hand.
