Description I have had probably 3 or 4 people ask me how to do this, so I thought I'd put together a tutorial. This is a very basic, simple skill and it can be very helpful for lots of things.
i always think this is like common knowledge but then i remember not everyone has been digitally drawing for 8 years like me

This tutorial just goes through how to put a white outline around your artworks in photoshop.
I have photoshop cs4, so the screenshots may not look exactly like what yours will look like if you have a different version, but the basic skills are transferable
Also I had issues trying to figure out how to format this OTL
theres lots of different ways you can do an outline in ps, which overlap with each other, so idk hopefully i didnt make this really confusing. if you're confused at all please ask me and I can clarify!

Also, I forgot to add this at the end/ran out of space, but when saving, save as a .png and when the "PNG Options" box comes up, make sure that "None" is selected under "Interlace". This will make the background (or any space uninhabited by pixels) transparent when you save.

Also, in the SAI version of this tutorial, I go over adding a colored outline around the white outline, but I didn't feel it necessary to explain in the ps version, esp since there are so many different options. If you would like to add a color outline around the white outline, just follow the same steps of this tutorial but change the color to whatever color you want instead of white. You can also do this with color from the beginning and not even have a white outline. It's just a general tutorial on how to make the outline around the image.

Check out the SAI version of this tutorial too!!

Also, if you ever have any questions about photoshop, I spent like 7 years picking apart the program and have become very familiar with most of the things it can do. My expertise is mainly in the art/drawing related functions of the program, but I'm also pretty equipped for other stuff too. I've also had many different versions of ps over the years so I have a good idea of what is and isn't transferable between versions. So feel free to ask any photoshop related questions! I know more than i should!

Hope this helps to anyone who was wondering!

p.s. crying bc it wont let me submit gifs in the tutorial category. this isnt really digital animation, but that's what i gotta put it under OTL
