Let's not dive too much into the meaning of Zappa's lyrics to this catchy song😅 🎵 Although I like the theory that it could be about the audio hiss / tape noise an ever present phenomenon with that technology, especially during very quiet or silent parts of audio tape recordings ("tiny hole - that is usually empty"). The fact that they live by the SMPTE code means that baby snakes are something that come out on tape when you've been cooped up in a studio all night and for days on end. SMPTE is a professional syncing code so that sound and pictures are perfectly aligned. Zappa might be giving the audio hiss giving the problem a humorous personality - like gremlins in the machine.

Anyway, this is what came to mind for Inktober Day 30: Slither, baby snakes slithering into a freaky new alternate reality. Is the hand snake welcoming them or halting them?

Painted with watercolours and tried to minimise the use of ink outline, used some Zebra gel pens and Posca paint markers for some of the bright colour accents and outlines. Fun fact, the background is my landlady's exercise ball, I liked how the colours contrasted so I balanced the postcard on it while taking a picture.
