I'm a fan of him. ...And I recognize he's not that innocent, or nice at all. I even think that at the start of Portal he didn't care at all about Chell and only went on because he thought he could use her. Then he actually started realizing he started to care a little more later on, mostly only because he was so desperate for approval and someone to talk to. He's proven to be human enough for that. 

He straight up does exactly what GLaDOS does too as a potato: try to win her sympathy. He says bad things about a lot of stuff and then stops himself forcefully to sound less mean spirited. Even at the start of the game he says that line "Oh, just open the door!" and then he adds to himself "That's too agressive..."

He's just clingy and frustrated, and in my opinion is VERY responsible for his actions as an antagonist. He straight up laughs at the sentry turrets being incinerated. This scene gives me a lot to think about. Especially since so many people seem to ignore it. The defective turrets laugh too, but what exactly does this mean? I can perfectly see THEM going mad at the idea of being in control of the facility as well. So, was the guy really as sweet as most people seem to paint him as? Was he really just a victim there? I don't think so! The chassis was fuel, lots of fuel, to the fire. Corrupted codes, influences, the itch, all of that was responsible, but the metaphorical fire was there, very, very present. If you think he's a jerk, I can't blame you at all.

I agree to the whole comment- I actually meant that he's a good character was well designed, 
I'm just not like the other users who say "WHEATLEY OH NO-" and "GLADOS YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS"

I agree. He's no better than GLaDOS... except GLaDOS has a legitimate excuse: she's batshit crazy even while disconnected from the facility ("BURNING PEOPLE! HE SAYS WHAT WE'RE ALL THINKING!"), probably as a result of the cores' constant babbling. It's pretty clear that she's a fruit of something called "idiot programming" and said idiot never thought about making her prioritize human life. So while she can't be forgiven and is still responsible for what she did, she has a reason. Wheatley... not so much. The only bad things that happened to him were being laughed at and demoted to a shitty job. He's irresponsible and fails to see many things. 

Plus a personal reason why I don't like him: After the first Portal game I was already developing some sort of Stockholm symdrome for her and Wheatley, while a good character, was the new guy who won't get as much love as GLaDOS simply because he just sorta... showed up at my doorstep, promised me escape and betrayed me.

Yeah with Glados its understandable I mean I couldn't stand all those cores in her shoes so... For Wheatley I felt kind of bad for him but then when he goes crazy and bad I'm like "When did THIS Happen?!" And yeah he was a moron core so.... Maybe he's likable cause of his voice..

Yeah I get it for Glados however I felt kind of sassy whenever shed say things and yeah it felt rushed I thought for sure mid game hed betray you...

Merchant's voice acting is probably the only thing about Wheatley I like without any "but's". I don't know. He's a good character, but not my cup of tea. But that might be because I don't like the "silly and doesn't know much" type of character at all, I prefer the witty and intelligent (or genius and socially awkward) ones.

That's what I've been told his voice was the best part but eh not to me I mean o heard DA2 Fenris had a good voice actor but I still didn't like the guy. And I get it we all have our favorite type mine is any one that's not a Bitch or Stuck Up....

Yeah... I don't like Wheatley at all, I just love the Bristol accent. And Merchant.

When it comes to my favourite character type, I don't mind them being bitchy if the writers can pull it off correctly and they don't come across as whiney (GLaDOS is one of the best examples of the "good bitchy"), but as I said, I can't tolerate dumbasses. Goofy characters, sure, but not incompetent idiots. And I noticed that I have a weird thing for AI characters. Idk why, but there is a great chance that if you have an AI on the team, it will be my favourite. And if there's two or more, I'll prefer the least human one (like Legion from Mass Effect, who, in my opinion could eat the other resident AI for breakfast).

Ah.

Yeah I get it when it's not done right of course the character will be intolerable. It's fine I have a thing for the really unusual or interesting one and I'll prefer anyone except Elves unless they surprise me with something new (Yeah I get it he is a decent character. I certainly enjoyed him and The alien partners over the human ones...)
