Description H-appysorry posted aΒ monster-building art prompt Β and I figured I'd give it a go! I haven't designed a creature in ages, and I had an absolute blast (and rediscovered some favorite animals I'd forgotten).Β

Grandmother Moss is a legendary creature, also known as the Garden Beast. She is an incredibly shy creature with a kind heart and a tendency to worry. Grandmother Moss cares deeply for others, but rather than make contact, she instead shows her affection through gifts of freshly picked fruit and herbs. Frequently, she will tend to the gardens of others, pulling weeds, pruning plants, and turning the dirt with her large claws to prepare it for planting. She also tends to forest paths, keeping them clear for travelers.

She is mute, and any true name of hers has been lost with time. Grandmother Moss is ancient and hibernates periodically, sometimes for years at a time. During this period, various mosses, plants, and occasionally fungi will grow from the fur on her back and horns. Spiders often build webs between her blunt horns. When she wakes, the flora gradually loosen and fall from her fur. When it has nearly all disappeared, she hibernates again. Some speculate that the plant life is tied to her own livelihood.

Physical notes:
-Basic body anatomy is that of a pangolin. (Check out this adorable video of one walking about!) She walks with a similar hunched, slow gait.
-Her head is like that of a serow's, with the exception of roan antelope ears and markhor horns.
-Fur was inspired by the brown hyena, though hers is longer, thicker, and heavier.
