Leadenhall Market in the district of "City of London" is a big roofed market.
The beginnings of Leadenhall market lie in the 14th century. At that time, cheese and poultry dealers met at in this mansion.
The market was built from 1439 to 1447, as a granary with a central courtyard for the market itself. The Leadenhall market, took an upturn after he had got in 1463 the cradle right for wool, and in 1488 the monopoly for leather trade.
After the great fire of London 1666, destroyed the structure of the original building, it was rebuilt again as a covered market in a provisional building, which lasted until the end of the 19th century.
The current Hall, cast iron and glass in Victorian style, comes from 1881, by the London-based city architect Sir Horace Jones. The covered lanes connect the Gracechurch Street the former market. The roof structures made of iron allow plenty of light into the streets, so the impression a Mediterranean Piazza.
The Shops at Leadenhall Market offer mostly on food, delicacies, fine poultry, cheese, and for some years also several clothing stores. In addition, there are several restaurants and bars that use primarily the bankers and office workers from the surrounding companies for their lunch.
The Leadenhall market was used in the film adaptation of the first volume of Harry Potter as a filming location, around here the scenes which play in Diagon Alley to turn away.
Sorry for my bad English!
