Well they started out way dumb in the beginning of the series but after the scene where Sakura cut her hair in the Forest of Death they actually attempted to fight. However in shippuden Sakura is back to being useless like she was in the beginning of the series. I mean they're at war and she's just standing there. Personally the whole war is badly written. Wars are generally mass chaos with people scattered all over the field. Everyone has to fight otherwise they die. Body parts blood and gore. Kishi needs to study some battles or something because he sucks! Hell, if I had written Naruto I bet it would be better, not to be arrogant or anything. The girls would be badass and tought and not faint from being thrown or being punched. I'm sure there are alot of people who could do a better job with the manga.
Anyway, the art is really beautiful. I love it.

Actually, Ino had the highest grades in the ninja academy, even higher then Sasuke. IDK about Sakura...I'd say she lacks common sense and makes bad decisions, but she's not really stupid, education wise
