and fix shark bytes for crying out loud its japanese name doesn't reference the shark at all nitwits (midnight voltage, you tell me if there's a shark in there)

I had like 3 different titles, reverse off the hook, Umarine and Arie, and Acid Hues itself but I just picked that since yeah.

Doing songs from splatoon a bit differently if they have known lyrics in that I'll sync movements to the lyrics and not timestamps. Because I'm usually going to be the one translating these things so I might as well educate people as well as making them real in my fanon

I actually made the timing video before I made the comic as there are some frames I repeat and insert various times and photoshop can't save massive files, I had to downsize all my pictures to make it fit even here, so really, this is more for the video than the comic itself.

Inspiration for their dance pretty much came from the concerts. You watch them bounce around in when they sing Acid Hues and it's quite satisfying.

Umarine and Arie with this particular song, it's bubbly, and happy, and cheerful, like the two characters are. By this point, well currently now but not in the pic, Arie's been in Turf Wars for some months now and Umarine's a new player to the Splatoon 2 scene (as in she wasn't around for Splat 1's events) and they embrace the present giving them good luck. But when this would've taken place thematically is shortly after Arie returned home from being captured, as I had made a picture for this exact thing, only that was back when I didn't have this idea to comicise/videoise (i don't care, they're words now) them. After Arie's welcome, I decided that was it for her doing any crazy things in the Splatoon 2 story, the Octo Expansion is more about the chain reaction she caused than her herself in my fanon, as the hero mode story was to conclude that, so she now is rather bubbly and cheery in terms of thematic song connections. Not like her past is forgotten, but she uses it to fuel her further adventures.

So when Eric mentioned when she came back that she would listen to 'Off the Hook on loop' he meant because she appreciates Marina tossing it behind her and listens to Off the Hook often. Umarine is a big fan of Pearl, so the two are thematically connected to Off the Hook, as they also didn't know each other very well (Umarine has only known her for about a year, since the very start of 2017 whatever the squid world correlates to, 14017?) but became as close as sisters in that time, even though Umarine is biologically sister to Eric, much like OtH revealed in the Octo Expansion.

As anime logic would have it of course Eric knows nothing about this dance routine, he only knows they listen to it all the time.

As for the reverse off the hook pose that's -ok yes I forgot, but I normally do that in real life anyway, so it's technically fitting for my characters to be a 'reverse off the hook' the real off the hook fans know how to pose properly, these two just love Acid Hues, plus i wasn't actually trying to make them pose like off the hook, just the hand formations (octoling thumb behind hand because they have 8 main limbs not 10)

It's portrayed as an excercise routine, though it's half-fanon because they didn't actually do the whole thing, yet some of it also happened. They're also lip-syncing the lyrics, but not actually singing them (coloured with pearl and marina colours not the speech of colours i normally give umarine and arie if they speak, though umarine and pearl have a little difficulty in terms of difference). Some time after Arie returned home, they danced to this song, and it's a half-character theme due to the connection they share.

just watch the concerts to get an understanding of their moves if you haven't already.
