His story: He snuck into the concert that most Octolings were invited to, and got exposed to the Inkantation. He met Roto and Truffle at this point, the two of them also curious about it.

Most Octolings escaped to the surface. Including these guys. They signed up for Turf Wars and got to know each other better. They didn't really encounter any Inklings until they met Jostle of the crew of Camilla's.
They consider their group friends, though they hang out on their own often.
