"The Great City Kliff is one of the most prosperous and well-protected places in the entire continent of Waidheim. As such, it is also home to perhaps the most cultured and sophisticated people of the continent. While in many other places people cannot not do else but to worry about everyday survival, the citizens of Kliff and its realm have found the comfort to pursue higher means in life. Therefore, young Kliffian men and women are usually more concerned with securing the most esteemed education for themselves and following the latest cultural trends and fashion.
Their prosperity is not unearned, though. Being Kliffian means to be dutiful, diligent, and reasonable. It is a life of servitude and dedication to the Great City and unshaken loyalty to itself and its Lordly Family Rabenstein. Kliffian men and women ground their lives on their profession or craft which is not to be judged by prestige but rather by its merits for the prosperity for the city and its citizens, as the one pursuing it is not to be judged by his or her birth but by the dedication, he or she puts into the betterment of Kliff and his fellow citizens. Therefore, occupation may range from glassblower to smith, from innkeeper to merchant, from courtesan to court servant – even though they still might be seen with varying amounts of esteem. But those who do not respect their fellows’ profession or commitment are not to be respected themselves and seen more harshly down upon than any diligent courtesan might ever be".
