Description I'm just seeing how one of the pieces I posted a couple weeks ago (Heaven vs Hell on 32"x40" illustration board) didn't photograph all that clearly since its a large piece with a zillion tiny lines. So here's a close-up of a little part of it so you can see the lines and designs a little better
All lines are done completely freehand and without at a plan using Sharpie markers

How in the world do you even PLAN such work! I'm trying to figure out where you started. x'D This is really amazing!

That's the funny thing- I dont plan any of my workΒ  Β  My philosophy on that is if you have a plan then potentially there can be mistakes- but if you dont have a plan, nothing can go wrong. Thank you for the kind words!

I've never thought of it that way before. Yet obviously a successful method indeed.~

haha- thanks! Yes indeedy all freehand and without a plan. My theory is if you dont have a plan, you can't make any mistakes

Love it, i cant use anything but sharpies while free handing. Do you have a youtube account? I read a comment saying you've worked on cars with sharpies, i think i might have seen one or two of them. But anyways, great work!

Thank you! I do have some of my sharpie cars on YouTube- one of them is under username Cruizin4Customs- but you could search Sharpie Camaro, Sharpie Cadillac, or Sharpie Fiero I think

How on earth d'you keep your lines so sharp and clean? It's amazing!

Thank you! I've had a looooooot of practice- considering this is just a flat piece of board its much easier to do straight lines then when I'm working on a car's surface which is constantly changing shape. I draw my lines really really fast- this helps keep the line weight uniform (until i WANT to adjust it) as well as making it very crisp

MurphyParys In reply to PinstripeChris [2013-01-04 13:54:16 +0000 UTC]

That either takes a lot of control of the pen or a lot of luck, because when I draw lines really fast, they tend to go everywhere BUT where I want them. XD

You're very welcome!

Sometimes I feel like its luck over and over again, and a bit of patience. No matter what, practice will always be very very important- what works for me may not be the best way for everyone

With that much luck it might be wise to invest in a lottery ticket.

:0 i would never be able to acomplish somthing so detailed in such time that would take me a few weeks if anything and probably still wouldnt be half as good !
how long have you been doing this style of art :0?

PinstripeChris In reply to TheDeviantSketcher [2013-01-02 21:02:39 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure you could do it if it's what you really wanted to do I've been developing my 'style' with the sharpies for coming up on 3 years. I started out doing cars, so large surfaces don't scare me- I'd rather work on a large scale actually!

Thank you! I checked out your artwork from your links-

I really like the Landscape, the different directions of the shading gives the feeling of different elements of the piece without over shading. The perspective on the ground and the boot prints i especially like. I suppose the sun could stand out a little bit more, but you certainly wouldn't want to over do it

The Eye looks fantastic as well- smooth blending and sharp detail. The precise level of contrast on something like that is hard to achieve without over doing it- everything fits. I find it more beneficial to practice on smaller then life scale personally so that you can look at it and quickly recognize what needs adjusting/sharpening.

Your pencil work is good, keep it up! And always consider practice and chance to learn
