Personality:
As mentioned in the application seen above, Nathan is outgoing and caring. That being said, it must be noted that even though he always keeps an eye out for his comrades, he doesn't forget about himself. When trapped in dire situations, he will always try and help out others, before helping himself, but in the end, when he's got to choose, he will rescue himself, but only so that he may go back later in order to aid others.

Likes to joke whenever possible. Because of this, others might judge quickly and call him frivolous, but, as mentioned before, it is merely his way of trying to break the tension. When the moment calls for it, he can be as serious as a rock and keep his mind on the right track and not avert from it. He doesn’t mind taking charge, but he prefers to follow strict and clear orders. Though when he disagrees with something, he makes sure he outs his opinion, though still with respect and dignity.

He's slightly paranoid, but usually keeps his suspicions (about God knows what) to himself. He can be stern and strict when required, but it’s difficult to get him thoroughly angry. When he does get angry, though, it’s wise to keep your mouth shut.

The idea of using Pokémon as weapons is not one he fancies. Nathan heaved a heavy sigh when it was first announced, but he merely accepted it that they had come down to this and tries to make the best out of it, like he always tries to do of most situations that he’s not entirely comfortable with.

Backstory:

Nathan grew up in a simple household. His parents divorced when he was 3 years of age. Staying with his mother meant he now hardly remember anything from or about his father, for they did not separate on good terms. Nate has not seen his father since the day they actually got divorced, though he does not grief never really having had a father-figure in his life. It simply meant that he matured earlier than any other kid would, whose parents were still together. He’s also only-child.
Nate finished his school at a leisure pace. Always making sure he didn’t attract attention and always cautiously staying out of trouble. He quite easily got the notes he needed in order to graduate. Once out of school, Nathan realized he had no idea what he actually wanted to do with his life. All that he knew was that he wanted to help the community and so, one way or the other, he decided to become a road construction worker, helping construct the roads and paths that would connect cities and villages with one another. It was a tough job. The days were often long and the work hard. It didn’t pay much either, but even so, Nathan still took much joy in it and complained little. He took pride in his work, knowing that the roads he helped built would aid people and make it easier and saver for them to travel between places.

Before his current girlfriend Jennifer, whom he met at the age of 26, Nathan’s had two other girlfriends. The first one he broke up with after one year and a half, due to having caught her cheating on him. The second lasted two years, before she discovered she no longer loved him. Then he met Jennifer, whom he is now in a relationship with. Nevertheless, with each passing year, their relationship went and still goes down-hill quite rapidly. Shortly before the war started, she told him it was time he'd start doing something a bit more useful, for she thought road-work was for the lower-class. Nathan, of course, disagreed with this, since according to him, building and maintaining roads that would connect routes and cities was already one of the most useful things to do.

After a heated discussion, Nathan eventually enlisted when the war between Kanto and Johto began and thus he was sent away, separating him from his girlfriend (though, to be honest, he did not really complain). Nathan decided to join the Air Force. Reasons include that he figured he could use a change of scenery and that he probably couldn’t stand watching roads getting blown up under his watchful eye.

Caesar was found near the army base. His wing had got caught in a string of barbed wire just a few metres out of the area. He was brought in and taken care of. When fully restored, he was assigned to Nathan upon the latter’s enlisting.

Despite Caesar's initial dislike of humans (especially of the ones who had found him), he seemed to have accepted Nathan in the short time they’ve been together. This does not mean, however, that Caesar fully appreciates Nathan yet. When left alone and not bothered by humans, Caesar's usually jolly and frolic. It is common that he acts somewhat hostile against most, if not all people. However, this act of hostility might decrease if Nathan shows a certain fondness and/or kindness towards the person Caesar's targeting.
Even so, when Caesar’s trust is gained, you can be sure of it you will most likely keep his trust forever.
