Description "The Lake it is said
Never gives up her dead
When the gales of November
Come Early"
~Gordon Lightfoot

wellllll, those lyrics aren't the most appropriate for this drawing, since Yre is a boy and that song is about Lake Superior, and YRE's LAKE most certainly is not Lake Superior!

......ohhhhh Lapta!

I started this in April, finished it in october and waited until november to put it up so that I could use those lyrics.....

IAM SO RELIEVED!!!! I"VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG!!! AND NOW IT'S UPPPP!!!

Thank you! I think I could've accheives that sense of power more if the curve and twist of his neck were more defined, but hey! you like it, so who's complaining!

you shouldn't have to worry about ticking him off....well, unless you disturb his lake XD

thank you so much

Incredible! Is this a drawing of fancy, or is there some legend behind it?

PippinIncarnate In reply to DaceyRose [2007-04-15 20:18:07 +0000 UTC]

This monster is my own creation. In Yrd (the world I made up) there is a legend about the moon woman, who had never seen her own face. she first looked for her reflection in the sea, but the water was too choppy and her reflection was unclear. she then looked in a lake, which had calm water, but was too small for her to see her face in. she then decided to make some gigantic lakes which would be her own personal mirrors--large enough for her to see herself, but still calm. however it was this action that brought vanity into the world, which led to greed and envy and just about every other nasty thing. People began to fish in these lakes and use them for their own profit, but the moon-woman would not stand for people using her own personal lakes for their purposes, so she created a monster to dwell in each of her 5 mirror-lakes to defend them, but the violent tempers of these creatures caused the lakes to become violent and stormy like the oceans and so, she couldn't even see her face in those. The monsters, who would later become known as the Lakelords, are the grandfathers of the dragons. The idea for the legend came up when I heard that the great lakes were the only bodies of fresh water visible from the moon ^^

thank you very much!

Very nice!! I can't believe you have the patience to work on something like this. I hate doing anything that takes more than 2 days

PippinIncarnate In reply to GhettoRainbowCat [2006-11-20 03:13:53 +0000 UTC]

well, to tell the truth I was getting really, REALLY impatient towards the end, but patience like that is rare for me, and I wish I had the patience to do things in 2 days! normally, I want to start a drawing and work straight through until I finish, but school/homework/chores/sleep don't seem to understand that...

Thank you!

Thanks...but it was mainly on-and-off....I did the face and hair in april, then did the upper part of the neck and the wave in july and finally started on the rest in september. But UGH!!! stippling projects, though cool in the end, are a major damper on your motivation!

I really love in particualr the sheen along his mane at the base. That part right there is just quite well done. I can hear the howling winds now!

just gel pen and pentel white for the sheen....but UGH!! I had so much other detail in the hair that just got destroyed when I drew the background...not to mention how bad my scanner ate this....

but yay sensory stuff!

Ooooh! Is it related to Nessy?? She's Scottish, though...

Sheesh, I have no patience for all those little dots like that... How did you manage to stay sane when working on him?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PippinIncarnate In reply to euclidstriangle [2006-11-15 22:39:51 +0000 UTC]

no, he's not, but some folklore cousins of his might be the "South Bay Bessie" or Grimsby, a baby seamonster that got lost in the Great Lakes...haha, that was one of my favourite books when I was small.

And, oh, believe me! I don't have the patience for stippling either! but the awesome effects that come from it are well worth the insanity....Since I got the idea to do this at 2:00 IN THE MORNING, my sleep-deprived poor judgement must have had something to do with it

Amazing what a bit of sleep deprivation can do, eh? lol. Still, it looks nice.
