Description So

Animal Crossing New Leaf didn't come in the mail today

so I had some free time after all to draw this angry VP that I said I might do after finishing The CFO that also happens to express my current mood regarding the situation

and the sad irony is that if I didn't preorder it I could've been playing it right now since we went to walmart today and I saw it in that o' so glorious glass display case in the entertainment section

Same as my comment on the CFO, you did an excellent job on the VP regardless. ^.^

I shall refer you to this quote from the artist description of my CFO picture:

"Both the CFO and the VP are my favorite bosses of toontown gameplay, design (as in the character themselves), and reward wise. I won't be doing ones of the CEO or CJ likely because the CEO I've never gotten to fight since the boss was released after I stopped playing my original account, and the new one I made I only got up to 83 laff during the one month I had subscribed. And the CJ, I just really don't like him. He's really boring"

Neither of them have enough significance to me to really want to draw

So like

today

My brother and I went to Gamestop because he wanted to buy Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. I was looking around at stuff too, I saw Sticker Star and thought about buying it, and I was maybe gonna reserve the new Pokemon or the new Mario and Luigi...

But then I saw New leaf on the shelf and I was like, "Oh yeah, that came out didn't it?"
But my bro looked at the box and said, "These are only promotional boxes... There's probably not any left, because they've probably all been reserved and bought. I doubt Gamestop got another shipment."

At that exact moment, this dude who worked there walked up and was like, "You guys got any questions?"

So I asked-

and they had

one

COPY

...SO I BOUGHT IT

...I HOPE YOU GET YOURS TOMORROW

....In other news, THIS PICTURE IS FANTASTIC and I am totally stalking that comment on how to do lineless things that you told someone else. I'm pretty sure you told me how to do that too but I LOSE COMMENTS / FORGET THINGS D:

8'DDDDDDDDDD
Also I thought you'd submitted this picture yesterday but I think it was actually the day before that oops.

BUT YESSSSS WE MUST VISIT EACH OTHER'S TOWNS ;o;
Technically the 3DS is my brother's, we only have 1. Usually we each get a handheld (like DS) but I haven't gotten one yet. He lets me use his though so...

MY TOWN IS CALLED NOZOMU because it means wish in Japanese and I wanted to do something different haha.
YOU NEED TO COME AKDJSFJKLSFJKJ

If you give me a sec I'll note you my friend code and we can get each other added and ready to visit later in the day.~ eue I'm a naughty little animal crosser who likes to time travel, so I was going to go forward and back a day so I could finally start building things >XDDDD The only other thing I time traveled for was to grab a fishing pole- but I realized that actually going forward and then back a day acts like two different days, so I might end up unlocking QR codes too x,DDDDDDDDDDDD I don't tend to time travel though unless I've done everything I can do in one day- and there's not too much to do the first few days But it's been something I've done ever since Wild World for when I want to keep playing all day but still be able to keep finding new stuff xP I never do legit "time traveling" like skipping months ahead of time to see different holidays and such, that would just ruin the fun completely >XD

SO after I do that it'll also reset the stuff in my shops for today so you can come and buy things eue

Thank you so much.~ x,D I remember my own first encounter with the VP back in 03. I'd download the free trial to my computer and play all the way through the night just to make it to Daisy Gardens and actually gather enough suit parts to fight him just once before the trial would end

You're very welcome! I would play for 12 hours at a time everyday back in '07-'08 just to get to Daisy's Gardens and get all my suit parts Memories man, memories

It all comes with practice
years and years of practice

BUT I'd love sharing m' tips and tricks with anyone interested in learning about them! :,D If there's any specific thing you'd want to know how to do by all means feel free to ask. I might even make another sort of tutorial thing in the future- haven't done one in ages x,D

Aaah you're one of my inspirations! Your style, It's just so cuuuute!

How do you do such good lineless art? The poses and the shapes look really really good!

Piranhartist In reply to JackhammerManifesto [2013-06-11 18:22:05 +0000 UTC]

lsadfngdsa you're gonna make me blush

And it's actually a very recent thing I've figured out a technique for doing! I never knew how to do it myself for the longest time. xD

As far as the poses that's just from sketching out the picture- you can do literally any sort of shapes and designs that you'd want to just as if the picture had lines. :> The key thing for doing lineless artwork is layers.

You have to think about it as if you were layering pieces of clothing on a paper doll or making a picture out of construction paper.

-First you start out with the object that is furthest back in the image, in the VP's case it was his fist. So if you leave your sketch of whatever picture you were drawing on the screen, and make a new layer on top of that called "fist", you then outline the general shape of the fist itself with the pen tool or a brush. I use the pen tool for all my work because I can easily adjust the lines before actually filling the shape in.
-Then to get the details of his fingers, you'll make a second layer right above the fist. What you'll have to do is make the fist itself transparent or simply hide it, and on that new layer trace out where you had the lines for your fingers in the sketch. Once you do that you can turn the fist layer back on and make any changes that you need to on the line layer so everything is lined up.

And basically you just repeat that process for every part of the picture until your character is completely built up from shapes. Again you have to think about it as if you're stacking shapes up on one another- and the top most one is going to be the only one you see the complete shape of. Also if there's any parts that need to have lines to show edges of something (Like the VP's gear or head plate) then you can add those in as well.

Hopefully that makes sense, if you're confused at all just let me know and I'll try to make a visual example of sorts :,) This tutorial kind of shows of what I mean, though they have their sketch on top of everything instead of below like I do xP [link]

Ohmigosh *-* Thank you ever so much for your tips! I'll be sure to use them when I come to practicing lineless art! I've always tried to do it, but it just never turns out right :/ Think it's cause I keep layering things up wrong so when I add some shading it looks weird.
Waaah I can't believe you really took the time to type that all out! (it's a shame I can't type as much for you heeehe):S Thank you again! This is most helpful to me! ; u ;

Piranhartist In reply to JackhammerManifesto [2013-06-11 18:41:50 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! <,D I'm always seriously flattered when people actually ask me for tips, so I try to be as detailed as I can to help pass on what I know. Especially if it was a struggle for me to learn because I could never quite find people to help me for some things- so it'd be a lot of trial and error

I've thought about doing shading for lineless stuff, but the only "shading" I've done for it results in it being a different style all together x,D [link] so I tend to treat them as two separate things ;w;

I thought about trying "solid/cell" shading for lineless sometime though, where it's just large chunks of shadow like on this pic [link] rather than being blended in. It'll take some more experimenting I think though before doing something like that.

Another big tip I can tell you for lineless if you use Photoshop. Transparency lock and clipping masks are your best friends. Locking transparency on a layer will keep any work that you're doing from going outside of whatever shape you drew. And clipping mask functions the same way, except it doesn't have to be on the same layer as your shape like with transparency lock. It's how I do shading on pretty much ANY of my pictures without going outside the lines Those functions might be in other art programs too- but since I only use photoshop I wouldn't know for certain where to find them. OTL
