Description American Sign Language stamp.
Simply done, and simply said.
Sign Language, though I am just learning it, is something close to my heart. I was born mute (the problem was corrected) and once I got into college I realized I wanted to learn sign language.
The deaf community in itself is an entirely different culture.
I don't know what else to say

Images from a sign language alphabet taken from google.

Thank you sooooo much for this <3 it's perfect <3<3<3 I'm hard of hearing and so I'm learning ASL to help communication (my parents sign to me occasionally especially in public when I can't hear or need to tell me something important) so thank you for this

I'm surprised to find that sign language has different languages like spoken language. I though it was the same for everybody.

Correct! There is no universal sign language. Even in American Sign Language there can be "accents"

Well I just wrote a touching two paragraphs and guess what? My iPad died . I'm really too tired to rewrite it so goodnight. But anyway I love the stamp and I happen to be deaf in my right ear so I decided to learn ASL in case I lose my other or something you know and it sounds like an interesting language to learn. That's my summary haha.

The thing I'm worried about is my memory (remembering the signs and such), but I tend to sign to myself a lot... and with students at my job. xD

I'm in college taking my first course in sign language. I took some when I was younger and my mother taught me some growing up but this is the first time studying for a grade and I love every minute of it. My teacher is deaf so we have a no talking policy for the four hours we are in class and it's great! You pick up so much just watching him.

Pirate-Liz In reply to Nevah-Ann [2010-10-21 00:56:02 +0000 UTC]

In a situation like that you have no choice BUT to pick it up. That's almost a terrifying way to learn in my opinion. But, if it works for you then great!

Nevah-Ann In reply to Pirate-Liz [2010-10-21 03:14:43 +0000 UTC]

He's really good with us. He likes to teach us. He's great with helping us learn if we don't understand it.

Oh wow, great icon, and your story! I was mute as a child because of an auditory processing disorder, and though I speak rather well now, I'm still very visually oriented. Signing has become a huge interest of mine during the last few years, and I'm beginning to get active in the Deaf community as an ally.

After seeing some of my friends communicate perfectly in American Sign Language I feel the need to know. Envy based? Possibly. Dead serious about learning? Absolutely.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pirate-Liz In reply to blondeewolf [2009-12-22 17:53:47 +0000 UTC]

It's a really fun, yet, complicated language to learn. Unfortantly I had to drop my second class temporarily. Soo..I forgot about half of what I know.
Except bad words

blondeewolf In reply to Pirate-Liz [2009-12-22 18:12:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh, man, do I know! It looks so easy until you actually try! Right now I know basic stuff (Where is the, How are you, My name is, I am from, What is the word/sign for...)

And of course the bad words
