OMG! So you're not going to believe this...I got oil spots on this drawing right before I finished completing it! *TWITCH*I'm just going to keep this photo up even though it's not exactly complete. I'm SOOO MAD!!!! arrgh! But what can you do.

The color is really eye catching!
I didn't really notice anything odd about his eye, but did you intentionally make his mouth slightly twisted (like he's about to grin or something)?

As for the mouth, i was thinking making a smirk or some sort of half grin, but i changed my mind during that process so now it just looks funny. lol
I ended up fixing the eyes and just recently updated it.

Jake's kind of a smart-aleck so that would fit. It almost gives him a contamplative look though...
Can't tell what you fixed on his eye, but don't forget the inside corner (tear duct and gland) is dark on a Na'vi/Avatar instead of pink like ours. (I think that is one of the elements that makes Jake's "eye poster" image so captivating. Neytiri has it too, but her entire eye is unusual looking.)
Are you still working on his ear? The end looks cropped off, but it could be because it is waiting for some shading.

Good pointers! Yess, the ear hasn't been touched since. i need to focus on that. Same thing with the skin and mouth. Eyes are an important focus. I did work on them since i first posted this, but yeah they're still not done. They do need work! You are right about the coloring! I'll need to fix that. I actually shouldnt do portraits since the artistic part of my brain wants to go all crazy and not follow exactly what i see

Don't say that - you're doing really well at portraits - you just gotta keep pickin' at it. Sometimes the best thing to do is put something down for a while, then when you come back to it, the stuff that needs attention will jump out.
I've been having to work hard with getting the shape of Na'vi ears right, and I think Jake's are slightly different yet due to him being an Avatar.
I would think doing blue skin with stripes would appease the artistic part of your brain...does it try to lead you in really crazy directions?

Well portraits aren't going to be my speciailty or my signature, so it's not something I'm really going to concern myself with. I do portraits as a way of teaching myself about the human head, facial expressions, and texture. Walking away always helps and that's something I do quite frequently. The stripes do appease the artistic part of my brain and is one of the soul reasons I enjoy sketching the na'vi so much. It's also just me drawing a character from a movie that I enjoy

I'm using the prismacolor nupastel, which I like because they are firmer than regular chalk pastels and the colors are brilliant.

Thank you very much! I wanted a background that wasn't really involved to give more of an "isolated" feel. Because throughout most of the movie Jake Sully didn't really "belong" to either the Na'vi or the human side.
