The beginning works great but I dont think the fall back in the chair works very well. I would have had him just stand up abruptly and exagerate puffing out his chest before having him come forward and bellowing.

Wow... that is so great.
Although I don't really get the 'leaning back and waving hands' part, but actually by the end I forget about the problem because the whole thing is JUST SO AMAZING.

PiratoLoco In reply to haffri [2010-04-23 22:48:07 +0000 UTC]

HA...the leaning back thing was a failed attempt at trying something extreme there. It didn't work and I just moved on. Really want to fix that at some point. Anyways...glad you dug the rest. You have some nice stuff in your gallery as well. Nice to see some 2D happening. You should in-between them if you get a chance.

I'd love to see it with that part fixed. Only I am suspecting it could hurt my eyeballs with all the awesomeness.

Thank you, it's great to know that somebody who produced this beautiful thing here likes my work. I will probably work on some of my stuff a little more... only I have no idea when.

wow this is really great, there's some great hand animation and follow through in this. I love the follow through on his jowls. I agree with what Javi-80 said about when he throws himself back - it doesn't suit the dialogue piece. I would suggest simply having him antic back/squash down while still holding the table with a small head shake instead. Other than that, I love it. Great work, actually amazing for someone who only does this as a hobby

Nice work man!

Javi-80 [2010-03-03 06:11:15 +0000 UTC]

haha.. hey u can traditionally animate too! Nice job. some nice subtleties and followthrough here. I think the action where he throws himself back is a bit too broad and extreme for the time thats allowed and as a result the action looks a bit rushed, but other than that everything is so well done... Nice to see!

Wow that's amazing! I wish I could animated like that! where's the audio from?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

PiratoLoco In reply to inneryoung [2010-03-02 09:28:59 +0000 UTC]

Ha...thanks!! Audio is from 11 second club, but they nabbed it from Willy Wonka. At the end Willy Wonka tells the Grandpa and Charlie that they lost because of the bubbles thing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inneryoung In reply to PiratoLoco [2010-03-02 18:00:29 +0000 UTC]

I thought it was for that club, I should do one some time... I forget where it's at....? Also I always hated that scene. They cheated! they shouldn't have a happy ending, they are no more deserving then the rest of them...
anyway....cool to see some of you animation. I have been trying to get into that again, but I have no formal training or experience in hand drawn animation so I'm mostly stumbling around in the dark. I have posted a pencil test recently, would you be willing to give me pointers on it?

PiratoLoco In reply to inneryoung [2010-03-03 02:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Hey Rachel!! I will definitely take a look at your animation. Is it posted here on deviant art or on another site?

Willy Wonka was always a weird movie to me, but I like Gene Wilder and the Grandpa a lot. But whenever I watch that movie I just wanna beat that kid with a stick...hahaha.

inneryoung In reply to PiratoLoco [2010-03-03 02:27:14 +0000 UTC]

haha, the grandpa always annoyed me more. Yes, you'll find my animation in my gallery, I have a whole animation folder thanks!

Red-Delphi In reply to inneryoung [2010-03-02 04:28:06 +0000 UTC]

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. You know, the scene at the end where Grandpa chews Wonka out just before the happy ending?

It is most certainly NOT created in Flash, but it was compressed in Flash in order to be submitted to DA.

andrewk In reply to katana2665 [2010-03-02 00:09:08 +0000 UTC]

A program called 'Paper and pencil', it looks like.

katana2665 In reply to andrewk [2010-03-02 00:59:11 +0000 UTC]

lol..ok man...I didn't realize people were still using that method. Even though i'm 45, I mistakenly assumed that everything was done within programs...personally though, I love your approach and you really nailed the change in poses...great job.

andrewk In reply to katana2665 [2010-03-02 01:32:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, he HAD to get that animation up on the net SOMEhow, so computer programs are usually used for animation regardless of pencil or not.
