When the camera team approached Keira`s chain gang while returning from an exhausting morning shift from the prison farm Keira experienced mixed emotions. She felt ashamed being filmed and shown to the public in her current state – dirty, barefoot, wearing prison uniform. But then her craving for recognition came to the fore and Keira began to pose for the camera as she used to in her former life. Deep inside she was aware that this would be the very last time that a camera would be pointed toward her, the very last time she would be the center of attention. With the years passing and the public interest in her case rapidly fading she knew that she would become one of a faceless mass, just another dirty sweating number toiling on the chain gang.
Keira is not the only one on the chain gang with mixed feelings abut the public attention. Olivia T. on her right, 62, serving a life sentence for armed robbery, murder and drug dealing since 23 years tries to exploit the opportunity and articulate her anger and frustration about her messed up life toward the public, unfortunately nobody is interested…
Ashly C. and Evelyn F. (on the left), serving 6 and 10 years sentences for credit card fraud and burglary clearly show their discomfort with the situation. Surely these pictures of them will spread through the www. And they won´t be helpful rebuilding their lives and careers after they get released one day...
