Description A gorgeous young female Martinique Tree Spider, a colorful tarantula found on some Caribbean islands, better known as Avicularia versicolor. These are among the most colorful and usually-docile of all tarantulas, and undergo a startling change of color from bright blue babies to these psychedelic adults. This one does not belong to me, but to another spider keeper.

Is that purple hair on the legs real, or is it just a shine? These are one of the best colored tarantulas, my favorite though has to be Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens though.

That purple/magenta coloring is very real, in any light. These spiders are absolutely amazing with their colors, but like you said, Chromatopelma cyanopubescens still rocks, where eye-jarring colors and shine are concerned!

Wow... I didn't know that
Will that color fade after a couple months of molting? They're kinda like a walking oil slick as far as colors are concerned.
I found a picture of an A. Avic, and if this is a normal pinktoe's coloration, I am so going to put that on my list of "I want to keep someday"

Have you ever kept one? I was told that they are very fast, need high temps and humidity and they also tend to shoot excretement at you if stressed.

Avics DO need higher humidity, which can be attained by misting the enclosure once a week, especially in winter when the heat is in use. In summer where I live, the humidity is high, anyway, so it's not a problem. I keep all of my T's at normal room temp, around 70-73 degrees, including the Avics, and they do fine. A. versicolors really keep their bright colors and don't fade much at all following a molt, unlike some species.

As for the PZB's, if I do get a viable eggsac in the future, I do plan to sell most of them. That would be an awful lot of spiders to have to feed and house if I kept them all! Besides, why deprive others of being able to have one of these?

Wow... that is awesome that they keep their colors. My Rose haired just shed, and she's starting to get drab again, and less pink. What are their temperments like? Are they as skittish as everyone seems to think they are? I love the Ecudorian Purple, A. Purpurea but I don't want to have to chase it around my room, if it's skittish enough to jump out when I open the door of it's enclosure.
My tarantula and other pets live in my room with my aquariums, so I'm pretty sure it's higher temp and humidity than most rooms. Plus I get very cold very easily. Sorry for all the questions, I'm very new to keeping tarantulas, but I find that by asking as many questions as possible I'll be most prepared when I have a problem.
Well if you do get a viable one, I'd be more than happy to buy or trade for a few babies. I've not found a single person that has a Pink zebra beauty up for sale. And you're very right, besides my lack of knowledge of how to go about breeding Ts the sheer amount of them if I do hit the jackpot makes me want to wait I'm very glad you're willing to spread the PZB love around

All Avics are pretty skittish. They are fast, they are easily panicked, and yes, they DO shoot very-accurate streams of spider poop at your face if they feel threatened! I've never heard of one biting, though, so they're very gentle. Just don't breathe on them, since it's CO2 in your breath that really causes them to panic and freak out, and if you see an Avic raise its abdomen and point it at you...duck and cover!

Hee hee I've heard them described as "Like very accurate parakeets" about thier aim.
I'd love to get a couple because I love how creative you can go with a natural looking tank with plants, and not worry about it being too humid. I'd love to do a scrubby desert scene for my Rosea, but I'm not sure if I'd have to water too much.
I'm thinking if I do get some though, a custom built tank is in order, so that I don't open up areas for them to shoot poo at me, just the base to do daily maintainence.

Oh give it lots of kisses for me! I really like versicolors. My little Zippy is growing up. Molted again recently. That transformation into adult coloration is well underway.
