A photo of one of the Carolina Dogs at the annual Carolina Dog "Swamp Fest" and UKC Breed Specialty show this past weekend. I didn't get his name or the owner's name, and he wasn't entered in the show competition. Carolina Dogs, also known as "North American Dingoes", are a primitive landrace of dogs that are genetically connected to the primitive dogs of Southeast Asia and Australia, and there's a lot of evidence suggesting that they are a remnant population of the dogs brought across the Bering Land Bridge by the Clovis Culture some 15,000 years ago. Cherokee elders have confirmed that these are the same dogs that their ancestors kept. These dogs still exist, in a wild and natural state, in many pockets across the country that are isolated from development, and where Native American settlements flourished in the past.
