I've been wanting to do one of these for YEARS, pretty much ever since I joined dA
I kinda never felt like my art improved enough to make a noticeable difference, and I didn't have a picture that looked like it would fit this meme. But then the mood for drawing something sad kicked in, I said "fuck it" and this is the result. yay!

Well, the most noticeable difference from the past three years is how I gave up on pseudo animu trash style for whatever-it-is-I-use-now. I can still look at the first one without cringing (too hard), but what bothers me right now is why I'd decided to go for that completely wrong sunset-ish background. Well, I sort of fixed it in the new version, so there's that.
I tried to draw them in the same pose at the beginning, but it wouldn't work because they just seem so stiff in the old one >.< I mean come on, your best friend is about to disappear from existence, you can do more than just stand there awkwardly like a block of stone! So yeah, hugging felt more natural, and easier to draw

Also, sorry for the crappy size, I wasn't able to make the template bigger, and it bugs me to no end as well that you can't zoom in D:
