ok, couple questions... i see you have a start button. i know i would like to have that. also, when i make a new theme, i usually keep the fonts and whatnot the same, i just change the colours. would that eventually get quicker and easier to do? and when i do that, how would i save that theme or colour scheme to use again later?

What do you mean you make a new theme? Do you use a text editor to edit the style file? As for the Start menu, you need bbinterface to do that.

by 'make a new theme', i mean changing the colours to match the wallpaper. the way i learned it back in the day, putting all the skin elements (wallpaper, colours, fonts, icons, etc) together, was a 'theme'. i don't know if it's still the same. i could be quite outdated, as i usually am with everything. (by the way, i do still use xp, i think you asked before).
and the text editor... i have notepad, but i don't know what to write in the text files for blackbox. when i accidentally clicked on the 'new menu' thing in blackbox (not using bbinterface), it just gave me a blank menu and a blank notepad, and i had no clue what to write in there to get my menu back.
so, i've got some time, and i'm ready to get it going again, and take the next step, but first, i obviously need to get my menu back. after that, i assume the next step is 'bbinterface', so where do i find that, and how do i use/install it?
hope that makes sense. thanks again.

OK... First, find in your Blackbox zip file the file menu.rc. Copy it to the folder where your existing menu.rc is and restart. You'll get your old menu back.
Second, open a style file using notepad or another text editor (notepad is easy and light). It's the file with the .sty extension, or maybe no extension at all. Usually it's the file with the name of your current style (theme). In it you will find hex value entries, like #ff224e. This is a hue. Using a color picker, pick any color you like on the desktop and copy the new value over an older one. Reconfigure using the BB menu and see the changes made. Go on, until you change all colors to your liking. This is the first step: for the second step, you may need to change textures too, like vertical, diagonal, crosspipe etc. But more of this later...

so sorry it's been so long. ok, i got the menu back, thank you for helping. i'm still working on learning the colours. which colour picker do you use, and where would i find it. also, where can i find the bbinterface, so i can get that going? i think before i start making styles, i need to get the desktop set up more.
thank you so much for your help, and especially your patience.

Personally I use color cop, you can google for it. It's convenient and easy to use. As for bbinterface, I am including the dll in all the themes I upload here - you will find it in any theme of mine you have downloaded. You are very welcome.

Yes, yes, yes and yes It's easy to use (please read my tutorials or ask for info). It doesn't replace XP, it just makes them more light, more flexible and more beautiful. You CAN use visual styles, but Blackbox comes with its own window skinning maching, bbleanskin, that changes on the fly with each theme switch, along with all the other Blackbox elements. Thus, no more searching around to find a VS that goes with a specific theme: Blackbox provides it for you. And yes, you can switch from Explorer (Windows' native shell) to Blackbox and vice versa, provided you use a shell switcher/manager. Thanks for your interest and your kind words about Forlorn Park!

that's awesome, i'll try it as soon as i get enough info and get up the guts. i recently acquired windowblinds, too. are they compatible? and does any of this stuff cost any money?
i love my visualstyles so much, cause they have unique shapes, and windowblinds doesn't have much shape to it. i figure i'll start making my own visualstyles/windowblinds/skins someday, just to have the looks i like. but having more options is a good thing.
thanks for all the info, and i'll get to your tutorials soon.

well, i've already paid for windowblinds, so it's mine to keep, but if i can switch at will between visualstyles, windowblinds, and blackbox... the more options, the better. i have some time tonight, so i'll try to get to your tutorials, and i'm sure i'll send plenty of questions your way, so i hope i don't overload you. thank you for being so kind.
