[ [EDIT] (september 7th, 2015) I changed the main file to a version with my personal watermark on it, because people never fucking learn and keep using my Charlie without my consent and keep serving me that "I found it on google" excuse.

IF YOU SIMPLY ENTERED "CHARLIE DON'T STARVE FANART" ON GOOGLE AND CLICKED ON MY DRAWING, IT WOULD HAVE DIRECTED YOU HERE!!!! The "I can't find the source" excuse is really fucking weak. THERE IS A LINE WITH THE SOURCE ADDRESS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PICTURE.

But it's come to my attention that some people have been editing it on some other website. I'm still looking for them.
If ever you stumble upon them, thanks for letting me know. ]

Here's how I imagine Charlie looks like.
I made this seeing that we're in the month of heavy commercialization based on an ancient belief Halloween.

With Klei Entertainment progressively releasing details about the back story of Don't Starve and its characters, we know that the Grue's name is Charlie, and that Charlie used to be a woman working for Maxwell, who we can safely guess now to be a certain William Carter. (Maxwell being his stage name, maybe? Because let's admit it, "Maxwell" sounds much cooler than "William")

So we know now that Maxwell had some dealings with dark forces, and ended up being trapped in the (parallel?) world of Don't Starve.
(Also I don't think Maxwell was the first there... I may be wrong, but I think Maxwell says in the game that the ruins underground were there before him. I dunno I never went underground with Maxwell. I Just read some things on the wikia)
And Charlie was turned into the Grue.

Did Maxwell turn her? Was it unintentional? Were those two romantically involved? Was it unrequited? Is she still "Charlie"? Did she keep her consciousness or was she fully turned into a monster/shadow/demon?
Maxwell obviously seems to be obsessed by her. Or at least was at some point. (considering the scribblings on the walls in one of the pictures released by Klei)

So the back story becomes gradually pretty obvious: dealings with dark forces, the terrible price of knowledge and power, entrapment...
The only questions unanswered are what the hell do the other characters have to do with Maxwell?

Some clues lead us to believe that they are all connected somehow: Wes and Wolfgang probably being part of a circus in which Maxwell was at some point, the mentioning of "twins" (Wendy and Abigail?) in one of the letters addressed to Max...
But what about the others?

It's much too early to speculate anymore than this... Klei didn't give enough details yet.

All I can say is, I think that the more they will give us about the characters past, the more fanfictions will crumble to the ground...
