Even more intersting as Fool mainly just draws stupid simple shapes that ends up in hyper-detailing.

i saw the speedpaint, and i was wondering, is the program you used free?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Pix3M In reply to limbothedonkey [2013-01-18 00:25:40 +0000 UTC]
It's not a speedpaint, that term tends to be confused with a video of somebody drawing but sped up.
And yes, the program that I used is free. It's graphicsgale. There's a full-version but you don't need full-version features to do what I did. Be aware that software doesn't teach you drawing skills though.

Wow, something like this must take a lot of patience. :/
Do you take commissions for pixel art like this? It's beautiful!

Heh. Look at the shades. I was a bit lazy with the checkerboard dithering so it's pretty visible. Not all pixel art uses that, but if you see it, it's a clear sign that it's pixel art.

It was some attempt to create a gradient.

TheAshbad In reply to Pix3M [2012-08-06 19:32:09 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps use more dithering patterns as intermediaries between 50/50 and solid colors, perhaps? It's a lot easier on the eyes.

Pix3M In reply to TheAshbad [2012-08-06 20:11:14 +0000 UTC]
Oh wait, disregard what I said. I forgot about the weird highlights on the lens. Yeah, I was feeling a little lazy.
👍: 0 ⏩: 0
Pix3M In reply to TheAshbad [2012-08-06 20:10:04 +0000 UTC]
Wouldn't that create noise, another potential issue for critics to be potentially nitpicky over? The way I see things, it's either a 50/50 dither that doesn't create noise, or I ease the transitions with something that's probably unavoidably noisy. The only way I can think of making it 'easier on the eyes' is adding more colors to lessen the contrast between the dithers.

THIS IS EPIC!
Facebook "pictures need to be at least 180 pixels*
>Blurry
If you're in photoshop, check the general settings tab, there is resizing options in there
That, or Sketch/Skew in paint :/

Unless there's some breakthrough in technology I'm not aware of, scaling pixel art does weird stuff to its quality as explained here: [link]
I think the best that could be done is just scale the portrait by a factor of two so it's a 300x300 image

Reminds me of when I said that I know that things will get better back when I thanked everyone for the attention that I hardly anticipated. I didn't even think I would be making stuff of this quality let alone in just a few months, and I don't even know where I'll be headed in the future with this sort of pace that I'm trying new stuff and learning new things along the way.
Eh... the future. It's just so hard to predict.
