this is a really nice fractal, however i think the image quality is actually quite poor... i would be curious to know, what you think of the performance / quality difference between chaotica and f9000

This image is rendered with 256 Quality in Fractron. Perhaps it would be better with a higher value.

I have never used Chaotica! So far I've seen, chaotica only renders with the CPU?! I have not found to configure it. Fractron can use the GPU to render the image. Therefore i would say that the performance is better in Fractron.

i hope you'll be pleasantly surprised at the performance on a modern (multicore) pc. i work on commercial rendering software and have spent some effort on chaotica's fast IFS engine; it's a lot faster than flam3, while also producing better image quality (apophysis doesn't generate a correct result with multithreading). i'm genuinely curious to have someone compare the performance and image quality against the gpu renderers

finally, very large prints can be made in the 64bit version, and there are some nice imaging controls
