Yeah in the Cars comic book, Rally Race, Chick Hicks goes through a surprising amount of character development. In fact this is actually more about him than Lightning and is really three-dimensional.

Okay, here's what I mean, at the beginning of the comic Chick is still a jerk, praising himself as "reigning Piston Cup champion", trash talking Lightning, bumping into other racers, etc. When Lightning is asked by The King and his wife to sponsor a camp for what amounts to disable child cars, he says yes and even planned on asking other racers to join him in a charity race... except for Chick. Now the reason for this because 1) Chick trash-talked the DISABLED CHILD CARS and 2) Chick thinks Lightning has an ulterior motive for doing a good thing for charity and not just doing it because he cares.

Chick: Hey kid! I heard a rumor you're up to something... something big. As big as you can come up with, anyways.
Chick: I mean a charity race? What's your angle, McQueen? Publicity? Is this a ploy to sell more McQueen merchandise?

Chick: Your little race won't be much without the Piston Cup champion in attendance.

Chick: C'mon, McQueen.. Admit it! This is all a publicity stunt!
Lightning: Don't you ever get tired of being a jerk, Hicks?
Chick: Oh, I see your plan now! You help out some kids and everyone loves you, and once again Chick Hicks is the bad guy!

The King and the disabled child car, Timmy, eventually pressure Lightning to invite Chick to the charity race. So Chick is invited to the race, he races, but then McQueen says something that results in Chick... having a flashback about his dad telling him to "win at all cost" and start bumping racers everywhere and... winning the race.

However Chick learns that was only the first part of the charity race and is ticked that he has to stay in Radiator Springs for another day. While there Chick has an actually interesting bit of interaction with Doc as he tells him that he used to have a rival similar to Chick that actually caused his accident.

The next day at the race which at Willy's Butte, Chick blows his tire and gets a little help from Timmy and... well you see it up there.

So yeah Chick, while still hating Lightning, does actually change from thinking that pride and winning are the only thing matters and other cars are just a means to an end, to actually understanding and doing a good thing out of one's heart.
