Entry For Daisy’s Contest
She always knew it would happen someday. That everyone has to go through with it. And that they, themselves will go through it. She just… didn’t think it would happen so soon. Standing in the forest she holds on to him closely. Trying to comfort him as the life slow leaves him. It was suppose to be like any other mission for the two of. Admittedly though they weren’t as young as they use to be, but he was so strong and skilled, moreso than she would ever be.
“It’s going to be okay, it’s going to be okay,” she reassures, not knowing who she’s reassuring. “You’re gonna be okay. You’re gonna…”
She looks down at her lover’s body stained body, the knife still attached. She knows she can’t pull it out… it would only make his pain worse.
Grunts of pained had stopped, and are now just slow, heavy breaths. Looking him in the eyes she sees that he knows he’s going to die shortly. There’s nothing she can do for him. With the last bit of strength he grabs her hand, and looks at her one more time.
Feeling his hard, strong hand holding on to her soft, trembling hands causes her to tear up. He looks up at her, still beautiful even after twenty-five years of marriage. He couldn’t live without her, and he’s glad to die with her. He looks up at his wife as she brushes a strand of her graying hair so that they can look at each other in eyes one more time. He gives a weak last smile to as she lays him by a tree.
She stays with him by that tree, she tries closing his eyes as she see them drooping down. He grimaces as if telling her not to.

The funeral service was held three days later. It was supposed to be private funeral with family and friends, but he had touched and saved so many lives in his short life. They gather around the casket as priest begins his prayers and blessings with a speech: “On August 30, Sasuke Uchiha had lost his life while on a mission with his wife, Daisy, to find an serial killer. According to her, the killer came at him to quick for him to respond…”
Daisy closes her eyes remembering it all. He had stabbed Sasuke in the heart while he was hiding in the thickly covered trees. The murderer had been using stealth and speed as a way of killing people. Sasuke was only so quick, but the knife had gotten through him too thick. Without really thinking, as an act of anger she threw all of her ninja stars around her until a trail of blood came down from on of the tree and then a “THUMP”.
Daisy shakes away that horrible memory, returning to the sad reality of the funeral as the priest finishes his preachings to the fallen ninja. She looks at all the people that came to the funeral. There was Naruto and Sakura, married and now retired after learning about the death of their best friend. Daisy remembers how the pink clad girl dated Sasuke for a short period of time. They butted heads so much that it was rather scary in how angry and aggressive they were together. Maybe that’s why he loved Daisy so much. At least when they talked it wasn’t a shouting match and that they when they held hands it wasn’t like they were competing for who was stronger in their hold. While Naruto and Sakura fought with one another they knew that they’d resolved things eventually without causing too much damage.
Her other friends as well were present as they look down at their ninja friend. All of them looked like they were about to cry, especially Tracy Finnigan. Seeing Sasuke, laying down flat in his coffin- as if he was just sleeping- only to be reminded by the wound located by his heart. As Daisy looks at her she can only be remind of what happened to Queen Tricia Blackwell and how she could’ve been saved. That it wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t saved her niece. Everybody had doubts about Tricia, including her own sister, but when she took the bullet... Daisy tries not to look at the surviving sister, she doesn’t want to cry. She can’t. She needs to be strong for her children. With that she gives a heavy breath a turns away.
Daisy looks at her oldest daughter, Miho, and her wheelchair bound husband, Teo as the two mourn their father and father-in-law with Miho clinging to Teo. He knew how she was feeling; looking at someone that you love in such a weak state, or in this case dead, where you can’t do anything to help them. Inevitability, that’s what it all is. That what he feels like whenever Miho or his father saw him.
Daisy seeing two about to cry puts a hand on her daughter’s shoulder. Miho looks up to her mother, but Daisy reacts to no emotion. She notices that bags under her daughter’s eyes and slight shakiness as she grips tighter on the handles of Teo’s chair.
Daisy’s other daughter, Jodie, stands next to Miho as if trying to hold her older sister. Looking at the two daughters it reminded her how much they looked like her in her youth. Seeing them with their delicate features, their smooth hands held by their lovers… Daisy can’t stand it. It’s too much! Please don’t. Please don’t. DON’T.
“Mom,” the voice of her youngest son says, “It’s time…”
Not another word was said as all Daisy could do was nod slightly. Walking up to her husband she looks at his closed eyes, knowing that they would never open, never to kiss, never to touch again. She can’t hold in the emotions much longer as tears slip down, landing subtly on him. Everyone can see now, Daisy’s children cry with her knowing what she was trying to do before, was for them.
As everyone sees the deceased Sasuke one last time before burial they all take a seat inside as each one went up to give eulogy to the ninja.
“Sasuke was a strong and brave ninja. We fought in many battles, going on all sorts of missions,” Naruto says to the people as “I-I’ll admit he has been evil a few times but… we weren’t so different. We were orphans, rivals in the Academy, a team along with my wife, he was… He was like a brother to me and…” he pauses as he tries to hold back, “I wish I could’ve saved him”. Sakura looks at her husband as comes back down, holding him in her arms as they both cry together.
Daisy looks at the two, remembering how Sakura used to have a crush on Sasuke and how she let him go after he fell in love with Daisy.
As the hours past, with each guest giving their condolences, only a few remained. Daisy is the last one in the church as Miho encourages her mother to go home.
“Mom… it’s over”.
Daisy doesn’t respond as he just stares off into space as though in a comatose state.
“Mom…” Miho repeats trying to get her mom’s attention. “Mom.”
Miho tries repeatedly to snap her mom out of it, but there’s no reaction. She leaves the church hoping that her mom will eventually go home. For the next few hours Daisy stays in her seat, her blank expression soon scrunches as she cries and mutters incoherently of what has happened… what will happen.
It wasn’t until the next morning when someone found her passed out on the floor that she was taken home. She was dropped off at her home as she slags carelessly into her house. Inside were all four of her adult children, waiting in worry for their mother. When she finally opens the door she pays very little mind to them and their sick worry faces as she drags herself past them. Miho rushes to her mother’s side giving her a tearful hug, her mother giving off very little emotion.
“Where have you been?”
“Why didn’t you call us?”
“We were worried something happened.”
“Mom? Mom!”
Daisy couldn’t take this so she ran to room and locked the door quickly, before collapsing. Her children stood out the door, yelling for their mother to come out.
Hours past as they only heard their mother breathing, making it known to them that she’s still alive. Later on, the four siblings sit down at the table discussing what to do about their mother.
“We can’t just let her stay here by herself,” says Jodie.
“Maybe… a retirement home?” suggest Daisuke.
“Dais, Mom’s only fifty-two. She’s to young to be in an old folks home,” Itachi replies exasperate.
“Well what do you think we should do?” Daisuke retorts.
“I… I… maybe we should give her time alone. One of us can visit her one day, everyday to check up on her,” Itachi answers.
The four siblings all contemplate on their younger brother’s idea. After a few minutes of thought the brothers and sisters all agree.
“Okay. At least then mom won’t totally be alone,” Miho says in somewhat relief.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was decided by the four of them that Miho would go first due to being the oldest, then Jodie, Daisuke, and then Itachi.
The first day, was… quiet. Miho had gotten home from one of her missions hoping her mother would be out of here room. She went up to check if Daisy was still there only to hear nothing coming out of the room. She started to get worried when the door was still locked and had to resort to kicking the door open. Daisy was still lying on the bed, looking at though she was asleep. However, Miho knew her mother hadn’t eaten or drank anything since the funeral. Quickly she picked up the phone to call the doctor hoping that he could get her mother hydrated. An hour passes as the doctor arrives to help, along with the Miho’s siblings who arrive after the doctor hook up fluids to Daisy. Eventually Daisy’s eyes open as she sees her children once again.
“Mom!” one of them calls.
“TALK TO US! Please.”
Silence was all she gave them.
They kept her hooked up through out the night until the next day.

Day two, was Jodie’s day and all she could think about in the animal shelter was whether her mom is okay. With each helpless animal she was taking care of, from the old to the sick to the babies, all she could see was her mom. How this must be feeling for her. However, it was even worse today as one of the people had to put down a starving dog today. It was found in the middle of the wood, trapped between two rocks and a tree. The caretakers, including herself, tried to get it back to health, but every time they gave him food he could never finish it or even hold it down. Jodie and couple workers had tried everything in their power to try and help the poor thing, but it seems he’s too far gone and the best thing they could do at this point was to put him out of his misery. Jodie had always tried to avoid this part when working at the animal shelter as she loves animals and wants to help them, and watching this dog go... It wasn’t his fault. He shouldn’t… No one should…
That night, when she went to see Daisy, the bedroom door was open this time. She looks to check on her mother and sees her smiling somewhat.
“Hey, mom,” Jodie said rather solemn.
Jodie quickly changes her tone seeing when her mom’s eyes start.
“Andy’s been making his cartoons and they’re selling pretty well,” she says cheerfully as Daisy smile once more. “We’ve also gotten three dogs adopted today at the shelter.”
For the next couple hours
“Joan called at work today to say hi.”
Daisy nods in a response at her daughter in referencing her old friend.
“She and Daisuke are coming over tomorrow.”
Daisy nods once more.
Jodie checks the side of her mother’s bed to see if she has taken the medication the doctor prescribed.
Jodie speaks one more time to her mother, “How do you feel?”
Once again she nods.
“Daisuke’s going to get those IVs off of you tomorrow”, she says reassuring her healing mother. “I love you.”
After get her mother some tomato soup for dinner, Jodie leaves the home. “Please…”
