I grew up on mermaids and selkies. Disney's, The Little Mermaid always held a special place in my heart. I remember, back when Jumbo Video was a thing, they had an employee dress up as Ariel. Way back when you could pre-reserve your very own VHS copy (not to be confused with preordering, they had a slightly different marketing tactic, I guess) of The Little Mermaid 2, and get your picture taken with 'the real Ariel!' Now, I was a chubby kid, and in spite of wanting to meet her bad, I lacked the confidence. She was larger than life, gorgeous, and that voice... and I was just, well, me.Long story short, and minus the part where my mother coaxed me into doing it with the added life hack of sucking in your gut to look a smidgen thinner, I did it meet her and get my picture taken. Think I still have it packed away somewhere. Maybe I'll post it, if I find it.
