I'm not saying I could have necessarily done it better but that it's a bit different than how I think I would have did it. I like the simplicity of this method and works pretty well.

Well, normally when making a car I first place a circle where I want the wheelwells to be.
That is important for good proportions. Then I would work around that circle, cutting it up at the bottom and adding geometry around it with the line tool and/or arc tool. After that I would pull vertices in order to get it to look how I want it.
But I'm thinking along the lines of more modern cars and not older ones like those that would use you your style of fender. For this style I think I would place the wheel first and then draw around it with the line tool.
Like I said my way is not as simple or as quick but that's how I'm used to doing it.
