Personally, I'm one of these people who stands up against Lucina, Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, Took Link, Ganondorf, Falco, and all the others being clones of certain characters. Sure, their move sets are very similar compared to one another, but if you listen to Sakurai for once, there are actually small but life-changing differences between the two characters. No matter how alike the characters are, every fighter is unique in every way. Besides, Sakurai said that he spent a lot of time working on these characters. If you want to sue him, fine. But if you do terrible things to the characters you call clones, that's when I get mad. Try for once to think, look, and listen before doing an action of your choice...

Yeah, YouTuber cjszero01 ( www.youtube.com/user/cjszero01 ) refers to them as "mods" due to having identical, yet different movesets. Case of point, Lucina and Roy are different enough because from Marth because of Marth's Tipper vs. Roy's Baseline vs. Lucina's balanced blade. Dr. Mario hits harder, is heavier, and moves slower than Mario. Toon Link is quicker than Link, and even has different alternate Special Moves. Falco's stats are different enough to differ from Fox. The same goes for Ganondorf being different from Captain Falcon, although giving Ganondorf a new moveset would be appreciated. Dark Pit has just enough move differences to avoid being an alternate skin for Pit. And Ness and Lucas have different attributes and different Special Moves, too. By making these clones, Sakurai and his team saved on resources. Heck, if you wanted different characters, just avoid the cloniest of clones altogether. And in CJ's words, you can always beat up the characters that you didn't want in. YouTuber ChaosKey4013 ( www.youtube.com/user/ChaosKey4β¦ ) took this advice when Lucina made the cut.

I wouldn't consider her entirely a clone but I only do because stat wise,
Her range is shorter but because she doesn't have to space as often sheΒ
can be more aggro then marth + she's floatier then marth making f-airs kinda more easier to hit.

Clones are so lazy. Don't no why people defend them. It be ok it this was the 90s where there was no expectation in fighting games but this game was released in 2014, why bring back Dr. Mario, why make a bloody re color clone a character, why make a female clone of marth where Roy is in smash. What it this fucking street fighter! Where we have like 20 thousand version of Ryu.

Chris, you and I are friends & all but there's nothing wrong with clones, ironically Roy is a clone of Marth. Sure alternative versions of the characters but still.

Yeah but Roy is not 100% clone like Lucina.
Roy has different movements like his standard A, forward tilt, down air, standard B, his moves are flammable, up B, his up Smash, Final Smash.
He runs faster than Marth, Marth jumps higher than Roy, Roy weighs more than Marth.

For example, take a word from FreezingKaiju (thank you for the offer). He thinks the characters you call clones are all different than the fighters they were based on. These links are actually pretty touching...

I don't hate the characters, just that they have every same movements, Dark Pit only has 2 different things which are Electroshock arm but it's just like Pit's Upperdash arm and his Final Smash but was like Zelda and Sheik's Bow (That should've been his main weapon instead of the bow like Pit's)
Okay so Dr. Mario's speed and jump are different than Mario's and has a Down B DR Tornado, down air and a few but I wanted Paper Mario
As for Lucina...
So Sakurai didn't wanna add Chrom as a playable fighter not even an alternate color for maybe Ike because he would fight very similar to Marth and Ike.
But why Lucina?

Dark Pit: Different fanfare, voice clips, guidance that answers a few questions about uprising, n electroshock does more damage with a different custom option, bow doesn't curve as easily
Lucina: necessarily different slot due to range and size and weight, different voice clips and guidance, Chrom is overrated, One of Ike's costumes actually does look like Chrom

It's been revealed. The Clone Characters were originally meant to be alternate costumes, like how the Koopalings are alternate skins of Bowser Jr. However, there was more emphasis to make them different, so they were uniquely split. But I do agree with the fans, it should have been all, or none.
