in one attempt to make myself feel better, last week I started a new game on pokemon super mystery dungeon, I forgot how nice this game was!
this is actually a redraw of something I made long time ago! => fav.me/da2fipj

instead of a fox and a frog, now the team has a pear and a penguin, eheh, but the other kids are still the same!

I just finished the Super Mystery Dungeon Epilogue mission and as much as I loved the game, I'm sort of sad that the rest of the students were never brought up again and I also wish I could've recruited them after my partner disappeared, I loved these characters, I thought that compared to the Expedition Society Members they were better developed and really fleshed out, it would've been cool if they (Deerling, Goomy, Pancham and Shelmet) had a bigger role in the later chapters.

My favourite of these characters were Pancham and Espurr, alot of people say Pancham is the worst and while I feel he took things too far, he's MUCH better than Skuntank, in my opinion, at least he began to warm up to the players and had a redemption arc (At the Ancient Barrow) and Espurr was just adorable and pretty cool, but the fact they couldn't join me until after the epilogue chapters were finished I'll be honest I'm still bitter about.

What do you think about that?

oh! what an unexpected comment!
I like this group too, you can tell very well what kind of personality they have, and their interactions are very cute and funny! they didn't have a bigger role later in the game (with the exeption of espurr) because after you leave your town to join the expedition society it was the end of their narrative arc, and the start of another; I admit I missed them, so I took one of the kids when I had to do missions, and change between them every exploration eheh
I never considered pancham as an evil character, he's just a little mean, but he doesn't have bad intention, in fact he and shellmet are still friends with the rest of the kid, they even went to save pancham without hesitation! on the opposite skuntank and the team skull were purpously bad and actively mess with the player (with the exeption of the end game when they gave back the relic frangment to your partner); I don't think there are actual evil pokemon in all pmd series, the only one that can be defined as such is darkrai in the explorers series, who stayed evil untill the end, every other bad character has a change for the good at some point

Yeah, but I'm still a little upset that they didn't make some sort of presense during the bit where Espurr comes back they weren't even mentioned, I wanted to at least see them or hear from them, I feel like they were well written characters that didn't have the screen time they deserved in the later act, out of all the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon antagonists I've always hated Skuntank; Gengar was at least enjoyable to watch and had a pretty good backstory and redemption arc, Pancham while he took things too far at times was at least shown earlier to have some redeemable character traits and he was a kid, just a school bully, Skuntank on the other hand is a full grown adult (from what I can tell) he had no character arc or redemption later on and he was just obnoxious and not in a charming way.

Back to SMD I enjoy the game alot it's entertaining theres alot to do even after the main story and epilogue mission, I just wish during the epilogue mission that your classmate could've been recruitable for an expedition, I just felt a little disappointed (understatement) that they just sort of fell into the background in favor of the Expedition Society members whose characterisation I felt was very lacking (except for Ampharos)

Sorry for the long comment

ahah don't worry, write as much as you want!
they unfortunatly fell into the background because they weren't important for the story plot, it happens quite often that charming character are left behind in favor of others less good but story-important. I think it was also because having too many important characters at the same time would be chaotic and confusing to focus on the story

I agree with you, the member of the expedition society lack a bit of personality compared to the kids, but they are important to the development of the story; you also have to keep in mind that kids aren't allowed to join the expedition society, the protagonist and the partner are an exeption only thanks to ampharos, that's probably another reasom why they weren't used on the later game

Yeah I guess, seriously while it did geniunely disappoint me I'm glad I got to venture with them after the Epilogue and like I said theres tons to do in the game.
Honestly Pancham gets a little too much hate in my opinion, I think that he's just a kid and while there times where I said "Okay mate, calm down" I really wanted to specifically see him develop more becausw favouritism

aww thank youu!Β  Β
it's a good sign if I draw something cute and colourful, eheh

ohh really? I can explain very shortly what it's about!
so, in the main series of pokemon you play as a trainer, and you go on an adventure exploring a region (that changes depending on the game); along the way you'll encounter a huge variety of pokemon that you can catch and train to become stronger, and your main goal is to became the strongest trainer of the region! (there is also a deeper story and a bad team to defeat in every game of the series)

the mystery dungeon series (the game this drawing is about) is a spin off of the franchise, in this game instead of a trainer, you play as a pokemon! and is super cool! here you have to explore a region full of randomly generated dungeons, with a partner pokemon you choose from the beginning; your goal here is to save the world from a calamity that is going to destroy it, the story is more intense than the main series (and cooler probably)

there you have a very basic pokemon knowledge! hope it helps!

I'm currently playing Riolu with Fennekin as my partner it is definitely a nice game but.... the ending has to be the most bitter pill in the entire pokemon franchise, even though you can sorta fix it still feels bad as despite your efforts not everybody can be saved. And then theres the feels of watching your character under that tree following the first credit roll crying silently for you know what .

Love Shellmet and Pancham in the back there ^^

ohh nice team! yeah, the first time I finished the game it broke me, I played all the mystery dungeon games so I was used to "the hero disappears after saving the world" ending, but when the partner says she have to disappear it surprised me so much, I never saw that plot twist coming! and then the player crying under the tree during the credits made me cry for a good ten minutes, aahhhΒ Β  Β

ahah aww thanks, he doesn't want to leave his pal behind, I don't think shellmet can run fast with those tiny legs!
