Sorry I didn't get back to you for so long, I've been away from the internet for two weeks and I'm just now playing catch-up.
Yeah Bansui....this is going to get surreal really quick, especially considering all the continuity of the anime and manga. Apparently, Bansui was a powerful captain that lived 120+ years ago in soul society. Even though it was prior to the actual formation of the scienctific development branch, he was a brilliant scientist who was supposedly was young Urahara's mentor. He eventually created a method to both 1) control the hollow transformation ability and 2) SUPRESS the hollow transformation. That's right, if the translation is correct, he had found a way to make soul reapers obsolete. The central 46 had him arrested for his blasphomous discovery, and tried to take his reseach with him but an accident killed him but ressurected him in Hueco Mundo as an arrancar with near godlike abilities, and the ability to transform soul reapers into hollows, and hollows into arrancar.
While the game didn't mention Aizen, it WAS implied that he is the reason that arrancars existed far before Aizen got his hands on a working hogyoku.
....This honestly isn't the only time Kubo has done this. Remember the prison under the central 46 that Aizen is stuck in? That was info released in the game Shattered Blade 4-5 years before the manga plot point.

You don't need to apologize, its been the same on my end as well.
There are very few people who know about Bansui, even in japan. They didn't make a lot of that RPG game cause it wasn't that well done and it was never translated. A bit more knew about the Central 46 prison sense Shattered Blade was a much more popular game, but no more then that.
Involve Bansui now? I doubt it. Its been such a glaring plot hole for so long now, I doubt he'd wrap it up. However there is a small chance. Kubo has a lot of continuity issues on the backburner before he ends Bleach, the key players being Isshin, Ryuuken, Urahara, Yoruichi, Kukaku, Tessai Uraru, Jinta, the New Quincy's, and the Quincy King from 1000 years ago. If he manages to add Bansui in that continuity backstory arc, to explain the pre-existance of all those arrancars, then Kubo's doing a great job.
I'm just worried that won't happen, and it will become just a large series of ass pulling that Naruto has become in the past few years, and One Piece is entirely composed of.

Like I said, there was almost no way you could have known. The only reason I found out is I decided to do research on all the bleach games.
Meh, that plot point with Kaien won't go anywhere. Why? Because he sort of dropped it in the original first few years. In the anime, they even removed the part where Byakuya and Rukia mention Kaien was a rebellious type like Ichigo....which was confirmed to be false when they actually showed him both in Rukia's past in Urahara's past. In other words, it was a dead end plot point. In the end, Hisagi resembled Ichigo in far more many ways cause Hisagi was Kubo's self insertion character.
Uraru and Jinta are interesting, but I fear that they've been neglected explanation for too long, that Kubo's not going to explain it. They were created too early, that they're development might be shot....maybe. The "20 years ago" arc might reveal something, once he gets around to it. Heck, talk about neglected characters, Tatsuki has witnessed several of Ichigo's battles and she can sense spiritual energy from BEYOND DIMENSIONS! She could even sense god-Aizen's spiritual energy. That means she has the highest potential spiritual energy of all time, yet nope, no need to actually do anything with her....jeez.
Oh god the Quincy's. These guys need explanation, even though they are the most ass-pulled villains of all time. The captains don't even stand a chance against them. "Quincy's only use bows and arrows".....and they could turn into giant gorillas, or be Lucha Libres with bow ties, or have floating fear spikes, or disintegrate high power people in seconds.
Muppets huh? Yeah pretty much. Lets play a game of alphabet villains!!!
Not really, the Hougyoku was actually a pretty well-developed plot-point, and the Arrancar and Espada took a long, gradual development to introduce and hype up. Believe me, there have been far worse ass pulls in the realm of both good and bad anime. Its only since the Final Getsuga Tenshou, ButterFly-Aizen, the Fullbrings, and the new Quincy's that have really removed the subtlety out of the Bleach storytelling, and created true asspulling.
I don't blame you for not liking Naruto's art style, although it has gotten better in some respects. But I definitely don't blame you for disliking One Piece's art style though, its a load of shit. Its like the Adventure Time of Japan.

... Hisagi is Kubo's self-insertion character? =A=; Honestly can't see many similarities between Hisagi and Ichigo, except maybe the hairstyle. Hisagi just comes across as much more calm and mature than Ichigo.
I didn't think there was going to be another arc? Pretty sure I heard that this is the final arc for Bleach... And it's not certain that he doesn't have plans for Tatsuki, or to revel Jinta's and Uraru's past.
Maybe they just evolved? I mean, they were on the brink of extinction, so it's not uncertain that they didn't evolve their fighting style in order to survive.
Er, see when I called them muppets, I actually meant that they were idiots; the Muppets really have nothing to do with it. Could be wrong, but I think it's a British insult.
Hmmm... I sort of disagree. The Hougyoku and Espada were okay (although they were pretty weak for those hyped up to be ridiculously strong), but Aizen... He was ridiculous from before he became a butterfly.
I'd be pretty surprised if the art didn't improve, even a little bit. Even so, the plot premise themselves sound a bit daft to me too - a ninja with a fox curse, and pirates. =A=; Then again, my favourite manga has characters that are in the mafia, and fight with Dying Will flames for the good of the world... ¬_¬

Regardless, Kaien's arc never went anywhere, and yes, Hisagi is Matsumoto's self insert. The perfect natural Shinigami (when going from the old idea of a soul reaper), always chasing after Matsumoto(Kubo admitted that Matsumoto would be his love interest if he was a manga character), and he actually role-played as Kubo-sensei in the series in his art book, Teach me, Hisagi Shuuhei!
We can only hope.
Uhh, that's not how evolution works. There is no way that they produced this many god warriors in the last 200 years, let alone 60 years, since they mentioned that Souken tried to prevent it.
Ah...sorry, I'm not real up to date in British slang. Still, I find it hilariously stupid that they are given the Alphabet to clasify them.
I think we can safely agree to disagree at which point we gave up one Aizen as a villain. Which is okay! We each have our own limits of patience.
Ninja with a fox curse? You mean having an ungodly demon sealed inside a young ninja? Doesn't sound all that dumb to me even from an objective point of view. Now, an entire world of pirates and marines, where eating a fruit gives you ungodly superpowers but if you eat it you can't swim for no discernible reason, then yes, from an objective standpoint, it is 'daft'. And it is stupid in practice as well.
Now don't get me wrong, Naruto does have a lot of stupid. The overall flow and narrative of Naruto's plot is actually really good, but 1/3 of the characters and themes he writes are downright detestible in how badly written they are. If you ever go into it, keep this in mind....there is a lot of really good plot and characters, but be warned that anything...ANYTHING connected to the main character named Sasuke Uchiha turns to really shitty writing.
If your a fan of the genre that Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Bleach are from, I'd like to suggest a really, really good shonen manga....Samurai Deeper Kyo.

I wouldn't say that Hisagi is perfect. I'd say he has morals that he sticks to, and Matsumoto is rather attractive, so it makes sense that he'd like her. I think it'd only become self-insert if Hisagi and Matsumoto ended up together.
OTL I didn't mean the Quincy themselves, I meant their weapons, which can evolve. Besides, Souken was a single pacifist with (presumably) limited influence over the Quincy, so it's unlikely that he'd be able to prevent anything.
It's okay, you can learn.
I think it sounds rather far-fetched, so it's unlikely that I'm ever going to read or watch Naruto. Besides, I've got enough series to keep me occupied. \o/
I'll see what I can do about reading Samurai Deeper Kyo, but it's difficult to buy certain mangas where I live, unless I order online, which I dislike (I'm old school - love to buy my manga in-store where possible). But thank you for the recommendation. (: Wish I could offer one in return, but I'm not 100% certain what genres you read.

When I said perfect, I didn't mean perfect in the literal sense. He is perfect in the realm he lives in, the samurai setting and shonen manga setting. Of all the soul reapers, he is the one that has shown the most in true katana work using a traditionally katana. The most 'back to basics' samurai, of which Kenpachi, Ikkaku and Byakuya don't count, even if they are in the long run stronger.
He has the most 'death god' like weapon for a shikai among all the soul reapers so far. He managed to last longer then any other vice-captain in the main fight, recovering from more defeats and deathblows in a short amount of time beyond Ichigo, and even defeated one of the main 3 traitors who was a dozen times stronger then him. And here's the kicker...the two times he was about to surely die, Kubo uses the sideline master Yamamoto to save him. Twice! A self insert character will have the second most plot armor, even if he's not the strongest. And a good author knows not to make a self insert character a complete self fulfillment fantasy, and that's why Hisagi and Matsumoto have not hooked up. Although to be fair, Kubo always makes sure to keep all romantic development close to the vest.
Souken was never stated to be a pacifist. He was stated to be pacifistic toward the flawed but overall just soul reapers. If Kirge Opie mentioned that he tried to prevent their evolution, apparently he was at least partially involved. Yamamoto knew about Bach's sword and rarer Quincy abilities, so its assumed these hybrid Quincy's were created from his doing, and that none of these are normal Quincy's that Uryuu descended from. (Of course, with that off hand comment that Opie said, Uryuu could be both a True Quincy and a Hybrid Quincy, but his bulk of power is sealed)
To each his own. (shrug)
The entire translated manga is on MangaFox.
I'm into shonen, adventure, action drama and shonen comedies.

I honestly never noticed all that. Have to agree that Kenpachi, Madarame, and Byakuya don't count - even I noticed that they rely an awful lot on their shikai or, particularly in the case of Kenpachi, reiatsu. Ah, but I have to disagree that he defeated Tosen by himself because, if memory serves me right, Komamura did quite a lot to weaken him beforehand. By the way, if we're discussing self-insert characters, then couldn't Inoue also be described as a possible self-insert character? She has an extremely unique ability that is somewhat God-like, has been saved/protected by Ishida (and Kurosaki) quite a number of times before any serious injury can be caused, has unrequited romantic interest in Kurosaki, and isn't all that prominent, despite being one of the main characters, so she doesn't overshadow the main lead.
Actually, I'm really glad that there's minimal romance in Bleach - all these pairings do my head in. OTL I just don't get why Ichigo has to "love" Rukia (aren't they just close friends?) or Inoue (despite her admitting that she likes him)... Or Grimmjow/Ulquiorra etc ¬_¬
Hmmm... I dunno. Souken always came across (to me) as the type of person who fights because he has to, not because he wants to. Then again, I think it's quite obvious that I don't read into Bleach as much as you do. I'm going to be honest, I don't know what comment you're referring to, so I can't comment.
I really, really, really dislike Mangafox. Don't really like using that sort of website, unless I deem it somewhat "necessary". I prefer reading manga from the scanlator's website, and buying the volumes when I can.
Oh, you might like Durarara! And SKET Dance is very good too (at least, the anime is - I haven't read the manga). Kuroko no Basuke is a good anime too, so I recommend that as well! I don't know if it's shonen, but Kuroshitsuji has quite a bit of action drama (probably not the sort you're looking for, mind) as well as comedy, and a bit of adventure.

Orihime doesn't quite follow the trope of the self insert character cause a) she's a main character b) she's female and nothing like the author, 3) her powers are canonically godly, not plot armor godly, and 4) she has never been presented as Mr. Exposition, such as in Teach me Hisagi Shuuhei, Hisagi was. She's simply the "White Mage Priestess" of the group, and has been given a personality and power to match. Nothing having to do with the author.
Minimal romance I agree is a good thing for the main characters, but one thing I find grating in some large shonen is that NO ONE, main cast or side cast, is in a normal commited relationship in Bleach. And if one does become canon, its usually at the end. One of the few anime that takes a break from this trope is Magical Knights Rayearth, a surprisingly good magical girls anime that takes a more shonen route then shoujo, which is practically unheard of. During the second season, two of the adult side cast characters actually get into a commited relationship MID-season, and it results in good onscreen chemistry.
Its kind of interesting how, for all the far braver moves manga makes over western shows, they still often can't jump the shark for anybody in most shonens.
I think it sort of falls within the same genre as Vision of Escaflowne. Both Vision of Escaflowne and Magical Knights Rayearth are both high suggestions from the shonen shoujo combination genre. As for other shonen or realism anime, I'd highly suggest stuff like Trigun, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell. And for martial arts comedy, you can't get much better then Ranma 1/2. Change 123 the manga is pretty good too.
Wouldn't he have to fight if it meant no more bloodshed between Quincy and Soul Reaper?
It was the comment Kirge said "my arrows are stronger then Ishida Uryuu's......THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE."
Sometimes the scanlator downloads them directly to the manga site of his choosing. If you can track down the translator of Samurai Deeper Kyo, more power too you, but good luck trying to find the english Samurai Deeper Kyo mangas themselves. If you have the money, its worth it, but its damn near impossible.
I'm already looking into watching Durarara sometime this year; I've already watched its brother anime, Baccano. Sket Dance sounds like a fun watch, although I'm just really not a fan of sport anime, even if they are most assuredly good. Maybe once I run out of my normal list, I'll give Kuroko no Basuke and Prince of Tennis a try, but not until then. Right now I'm looking into the seasons of Adventure comedy, Slayers. Ughh...Kuroshitsuji. Its one of my sister's anime. Here's my summary of Black Butler
"Its kind of cool, has some interesting characters, but the gross out and yaoi overtones are simply not my cup of tea. Wait, how did Square Enix go from creating Advent Children to this silliness, what the hell?" That's my summarization of Black Butler to me.

Oh well, twas just an idea.
Yea, but you have to remember that shonen mangas are aimed at young teenage boys who, for the most part, don't have much of an interest in romantic relationships. Besides, Kaien and Miyako were happily married, as were Isshin and Masaki, and Byakuya and Hisana. I don't think it matters much that none of these relationships are ongoing, because it's quite clear that there was a lot of love, and that still continued on past death. Also, not everyone has the need to be in a relationship - being asexual or aromantic asexual isn't a bad thing.
Like I said, romance isn't a big aspect of shonen manga, so that's relatively unsurprising. That sort of thing is, I imagine (since I barely watch/read it), probably more suited to the seinen or josei genres.
Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately, it seems that the majority of the titles aren't exactly available in the UK, and, if they are, a bit too expensive for me to buy at present.
Not necessarily. Fighting should always be a last resort, and I don't believe he would have fought the Shinigami if there were other ways. Besides, the Shinigami just ignored him, and I don't recall anything that states that he ever fought with them.
... Yea, I don't remember that. Bleach is one of those mangas where I take a passing interest in, so I don't remember things like that.
Naw, it's fine. I'll just do without if it's going to be a hassle. And I don't believe I have the money available either (the curse of being a student. OTL).
I've never watched Baccano, but it seems that Funimation have been kind enough to put it on their youtube channel. :'D I'm not into sports anime either; I just started watching it because I kept seeing fan art for it! Right now, I'm watching K-Project and Magi. Really wanted to watch Psycho-Pass, but Funimation licensed it, so we can't watch it in the UK. ;A; Er, you do know that Kuroshitsuji is first, and foremost, a manga series? I haven't seen the full anime yet, but I do know that it deviates from the manga. Also, I don't understand what you're referring to when you say "yaoi overtones", unless you're referring to Grell, who is rather camp.
