I work with adoptables all the time but i've never seen any emoticon ones. Great idea, I hope these catch on as it would really help younger emoticonists who have trouble coming up with OCS.

well okay...
first off you want to start off with a basic 15X15 px circle. its easy to make and you can use the MS paint circle tool(16X16 on their for some reason)
next off you decide on a color for the emote and make it that color inside (paint tool is usefull) and a darker shade of that color for the outline. then you add shading and glare to the emote,
there are several different tecniques and such for shading especially and everyone has their own style (for instance i could tell =pixiepot made your avatar even before looking at your page)
then it is just simply pixeling the face with the darker color and adding hands. its best to start off simple with it and find your strengths and weaknesses if you are not sure about something it is just a matter of asking me, =pixiepot or any other emoticonist (well most) because they will usually be happy to help. you can also check out tutorials and such.
the best way to learn is to practice! once you get the hang of it its really fun to do all sorts of stuff with emotes and pixel art.
