Originally 3 M88A1s were delivered to the Philippine Army from ex US Army stock in early 2000s in response to the US's War on Terror via US Foreign Military Sales with another 3 M88A2s were also handed over in 2011. They were to support their tank fleet of Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 previously purchased from Germany.
